Hello all,

I am new and I must start off I love the site. Thanks in advance for all helpful tips and suggestions. Names Scott and I received a older 26 gallon husky compressor. I’m looking to figure out what’s wrong with it and Fix it. Where do I start? I switched out a pressure regulator switch just because the gauge did not register. That seems to be working and is fully on max. The other gauge is not registering past 60 psi. The tank will run for 15 -20 minutes trying to fill but will eventually shut down and stay at 60-80 psi. I’ve drained it and checked over for all external leaks with soapy water , it doesn’t seem to be leaking. I’m handy but no ace , I just enjoy fixing broken things. Thanks all.

post a model number & some pictures would help

you need to check the head for leaks and the plumbing to the tank while it is running to see if there are any leaks in it.
also a good possibility is bad rings or reed valves
I would soap up all the joints and the head(s) prior to running it, then run it & look for bubbles .
if no leaks there then I would disconnect the line from the head to the tank & see what kind of pressure you get there.
need to do a process of elimination from easiest starting point

also are you sure the gauges are reading accurate ?

Evening Cobbler , thank you for the reply.I took some picture of the unit and noticed a bolt was missing from the head area I believe . Could this be the issue . I’m unable to do any diagnose work tonight out of respect for the neighborhood. The machine is quite loud. I’m thinking torque spec . Not sure . I’m going to see if I can tinker with it tomorrow to narrow down exactly the problem. What steps should I take?
