The knob fits on the back of the pawl assembly, opposite side of the 1/4 drive. If i remember right, i had to move the lever that the knob fits over into the center and spin the knob until it sits right. Then load the knob/pawl assembly into the ratchet housing. Put on retainer ring.

On the top half of the ratchet mechanism there is a flat selector switch. You need to take it and move it to the center so it makes the pawl move even with the whole unit. It will then fall back in the head.

Getting that snap ring back in *****. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and damn near lost it when it sprang outta there. You gotta keep it closed around the head of the ratchet while easing it back into the handle with the selector still in the correct position.

As others have said, you need to make sure the selector switch is in the middle. I use a pair of bent nose pliers for the spring. I think that is a little easier than straight needle nose.

My garage is closed for the night. If you're still having problems tomorrow, I could take some pics for you.

Getting the snap ring in wasn't the difficult part. Didn't even need needle nose for that. The hard part was getting the direction select to the center. I pressed the ball inside down with a flat-head screwdriver.

A "mechanics" glove box would really help for this. Guess I should make one. Number 112 on my to-do list!:lol_hitti
