Rebuilding a Floor Jack

I have been searching for floor jacks and have had many people recommend buying an older one and rebuilding it. I have found a Walker jack that needs rebuilding for sale for $50. My questions are this:

1) Can pretty much any old jack be rebuilt or are there some that are good for only scrap?
2) How much would it cost me in parts to rebuilt a Walker jack?
3) I have no idea how to go about rebuilding one but am intelligent and willing to learn--is this something that someone with no experience can easily undertake and be successful?

Thanks for your help!

There is a member here who seems to be an expert in jacks, Hiball is his name, he actually has a sticky at the top of the page discussing jack rebuilds

Thanks! I did see that and read through and I think it will be helpful to me if I undertake this but I was still wondering about direct answers to the questions above. If someone could weigh in, I would certainly appreciate it!

Anything can be rebuilt, it just depends on your skill level, $$$$$, is it a matter of only replacing soft parts (seals), Will some Hard parts need to be refurbished? Replaced? Are parts currently available? Or will it need to be Made? There is no One size fits All Answer, it will vary from Jack to Jack. Unfortunately unless you have X-ray vision you won't know the condition of interior components until you have the Jack in front of you and dismantled.

When looking for a jack, Rust/Pitting can be issues, so you want to somewhat avoid jacks that have been thrown to the elements, along with jacks that have sat without oil for extended periods of time <---- remember Rust. There is a wealth of knowledge on various models here, not all of it is fully documented but there are a few members threads where they have documented a full rebuild. A couple of them are in the sticky at the top, we also have Elroy's HW OS/WS, a blackhawk Sj2 and Georgia Hybrids Walker 93632 which is definitely in the sticky.

Maybe a bit more info on the specific model you are pursuing?
