Going to rebuild my floor jack. I was looking at the rebuild kits and they are expensive for some o-rings and some seals. Most places want $50 for a seal kit. My guess is that most of the parts are available online or locally. The only thing special is the u-cup seals...

Unfortunately, most things cost more than they're worth simply because manufacturers know you're going to pay them for parts or pay for a new unit. There are no other options.

I pitched and gave away 3 recently. They simply aren't worth spending the time and money on.

It’s a balance between time vs. money.

After disassembling your jack, the process of measuring the seals you want to replace and then finding the source(s) to obtain them from can be somewhat time consuming.

What brand of floor jack are you rebuilding?

If you google your jacks model number all the seal suppliers want at least $45 for a kit. To me that jack is an Asian made model not worth the rebuild. You could take the parts to a shop and try and match up the soft parts. But that will cost also, in time and money.

Some of the older Sears imported Floor Jacks are made in Japan and pretty decent quality. Personally I'd rather rebuild a quality jack than spend money on a new jack of questionable quality. Steel, welds, machining all come into play.

Sears 2 ton 328.12160

If you look at picture you see that there is nothing all that special. The grooved U-cup seals might be a little hard. I heard that hydraulic parts supplier probably carries most of the parts. Most of the parts are probably no more $20 possibly. $49.99 seems really high to me.

For some additional part sources.

By looking at the seal kit in post#7, I would agree with motoretro that your particular import was a well built one. Looks to have a u cup (blue) for the main ram, an actual wiper seal (yellow) for the tank nut, back-up rings (white) to support the o ring on the pump, and copper washers to seal the valves. In the cheaper jacks, o rings replace those parts.
