Rebuilding/Hot Rodding a 4' LED Light

I just replaced a 4' LED that has a really jice housing. The part of me that loves fixing stuff started thinking this might be an easy fix and I would learn something in the process.



When pulled apart it looks fairly simple. I don't known the best places to purchase parts or if it's even worth it.



I haven't done any research... so I am 100% green.

Here's what it looks like inside. Might be nice to improve this and run more LEDs.

What do you guys think?

If you want to save the housing, you could probably buy a new LED strip fixture, gut the insides of the old, and swap in the working parts of the new one.

It's all about how important the old housing is to you and how much time you would be willing to invest on it.

Myself, I'd replace it with a tube fixture with replaceable bulbs. That's my new gold standard.

I am just coming back from looking at parts and buying a fixture does seem like the least expensive option.

I do like the covers and I love the output of the replacement I bought.

What are you using for the tube fixture? These lights have lasted a while... but seeing how 1 went and another isn't far behind (I do have another replacement)... the other 2 lights are probably going to force me to make a choice.

Part of me hates the throw away society. I like being able to fix stuff and keep it going.

I upgraded all of my basic two-tube fixtures in my existing garage by removing the ballasts and rewiring, and I bought generic LED-ready fixtures (which appear to be identical to my old fixtures) for my new garage addition.

I'm with you on the wasteful nature of society, but at some point I have to balance my desire to re-use/recycle with the added costs of my labor and materials. YMMV.

I think the LED chips are beyond repair and the current driver will not be useful for driving the replacement LEDs.

I would install 3or 4 lengths of LED tape and a new 12 volt power supply.
