I was talking to my snappy guy yesterday and he said there's been issues rebuilding ratchets. The screws that hold the faceplate on are apparently too weak. If tightened too much they'll snap. He's rebuilt a few of our ratchets a couple times now and the screws are so loose that the faceplate moves around. I called him out on it and that's how I got the story. He says a bunch of reps have complained about the screws in the kit being too brittle and if Tightened too much they snap off inside the body. SO responded to him by saying they plan on supplying longer screws, which IMO won't make a difference unless they're also harder. Anyone run into this with their rebuilt ratchets?

If they are too brittle they actually need to be softer not harder.

That's funny, I had my FHLF80 rebuild a couple weeks ago my faceplate is tight. Maybe just tighten them your self and forget the idiot Snappy guy

The last 2 we had done were 1/4 fine tooth ratchets, both were loose. I talked to a shop owner down the street and he said his ratchets were repaired and had loose covers too. I didn't know if the SO guy was bsing me or what..

I am just saying makes sense it would show up eventually in the F and T, even if worst in the S ratchets.

Not necessarily.

Wasn't the S80/S80A issue due to torque/flex, and not some spurious bad screw issue?

If the F/T ratchets don't have as much force put upon them, then you wouldn't necessarily see the same issue.

Screws in my kits have blue loctight? On them. I dont buy it. The only ones that have had this problem is the s80 with the screws that went in from the bottom of the head. They changed the design and the screws go in from the top and fixed the problem

Hydrogen embrittlement of the screws I'm guessing? Seen it a lot in my field (Mech Engineering)
