Anyone send one in for a recall? Mine has been fine for 6 years with no problems and frankly don't feel like hassling with sending it back for a new one. I guess they're now a potential fire hazard. Mine stays unplugged until I recharge. I'm paranoid they'll take months to send a new one and my tools will be useless until it is shipped.

Thanks for posting. I've got 2 of them.

Their turnaround time for the drill recall was pretty quick but I'll only send them 1 at a time.

Thanks for posting the info. I got a letter in the mail. I guess I could send it in. Hopefully I won't need a recharge for a while.

Hey, thanks for posting this. Looks like I have one to deal with as well.

Did anybody find where on the website to deal with this? All I found was a link back to this same notice--nothing letting me start the recall process. Since the notice says "Customers can also visit www.ryobitools.com" I assumed I could do this from there...

I never did send the drill in because the newer one they would replace with didn't have the bubble levels on it that I found very useful.

Just sent mine off yesterday, it took about two weeks to get the shipping label from them. We'll see how long they take to send a replacement.

Nothing fancy, it does have a noticable click when switching to charge, the old one did not have that. slightly smaller than the old one.

Ok, I sent mine 12/12 and got it today 12/24. Thanks for the photo gwunsch. I do like that it's smaller as I can still use the Ryobi tool bag and stuff everything in there.

So did you guys have to call them or is there an online form to fill out for the label?
Funny, I had one of the P108s from 12/12 at HD go bad and got it replaced. I should check the label on that replacement battery too. I swear I could dang near start my car with those 108s.

This charger that is recalled quit working and had a cap swelled that I replaced myself. Wonder if that was the fire hazard? Regardless, will be good to have a new P117.

I'm getting a new charger in about three weeks and after jumping through the recall hoops. Seems to me, I should be able to return this to Home Depot, where I bought it.

I have the 12V One+ type but I would suggest going through the process to be safe. At work we use the 18V DeWalt and they had an issue with the drills a few years back. We had one that nearly melted in half. Take advantage of the replacement offer, the time lost in the process is nothing compared to the risk of what could be lost.

So I just checked my chargers and two of the three have been recalled. I guess I need to call them Monday morning and send them in.

While I was at it I looked up the other Ryobi recalls... Turns out I have a drill to send in. I was scared for a minute when I found out that I had three of the batteries with the right part number. They were the newer ones in the herd. It turned out that they had the wrong date code.

It would sure be nice if some of my older DEAD lithium batteries were recalled.

So anyway it turns out that you call Ryobi for the drill return and the other company for the battery charger. It sure would have been nice if I could have done all of it with the same phone call.

I'm with you on that. I have two of my three on the recall. I called them. They confirmed that my serial numbers were valid and sent me a couple of shipping labels and directions for shipping. Took about a week to get that far.

I sent the chargers in on Wednesday.

Send it in.. I have a friend that had his house burn and he is certain it was due to the battery. Ryobi isn't convinced though.. regardless send it in.

I had already sent them in. The new ones arrived and I put them to use almost immediately. They are made a little bit different but seem to work ok. Too bad that the bolt holes on the back aren't the same as the originals but that's a small price to pay.

I went by Home Depot the other day and was looking at the high capacity batteries. They had a two for the price of one sale going on.... well kinda.... two of the high capacity batteries for the price of one of the batteries ~$100.00. I bought a pair. That evening SWMBFAO asked me what I had bought at Home Depot (danged internet posted the sale on the bank website). I told her and she took me back up to the store and bought me two more batteries.

SCORE!!!! :rocker::rocker::rocker::rocker:

Never been a fan of ryobi tools but from what i heard they are recalling there batteries because supposedly they are a fire and burn hazard your best bet would to be send it in i mean would you rather have to be out of commission for a week or two or would you rather have your house catch fire or worse injure yourself from them. best of luck

Announcement says they're recalling through December 2009, but the actual affected date codes are 0731-0852 (31st week 2007-52nd week 2008). I have an 0952 date code that Ryobi said WAS NOT under recall. Thanks for the heads up.

I think Milwaukee Tool is owned by the same Chinese company who makes these Ryobi.

I took the paperwork and the charger into Home Depot and they swapped it out on the spot as a recall item. No shipping etc.

I've had my 18+ impact driver for years and use it nearly every day for something, never had a problem with any Ryobi tool.
