Recalled Compressor Now what do I do

I have an old Charge Air Pro that needed to have the oil changed. I looked up manual and found out it was recalled. IR made this compressor and the tank could exploded.

I can either get a check for a $100.00 or a $200.00 discount of a new IR. They have given me 4 models to choose from. They will pay to have this one returned.


So I am tossing around on what to do?? Any ideas.

Like American Locomotive asks, what are you going to use it for and what are you using your current one for? Impact wrench, air hammer, painting, sand blasting?

I use an Impact Wrench, Small amount of painting, Tires, Blowing out the cars parts etc.

I am Setting up my garage for a shop. I have a Sunday race car and want to start restoring / rebuilding cars.

I am not sure how much air I need. I have been getting away with 5 CFM for a while.

How Much air do I need?

For the price just get the biggest one and worse case scenario you'll sell it for more than what you paid. If you truly need something bigger... but for now 11 cfm is plenty for a home shop... and it won't run continuously driving you insane...

I can't remember anyone ever saying they wished they bought a smaller compressor, the opposite on the other hand..........

Go big you won't regret it unless you need it to be portable.

Just make sure you don't get an oil-less compresser.

Go with the 60gal. That way when you lose the drive motor, you can replace it with the $100.00 harbor freight motor. Lol. It's not a bad motor. I've got more usage from it than the stock one.

I have an old 15 gal oiless ir portable comp bought in the early 90s. Then about a year ago I was looking up something on it and found it was recalled. As I don't need much air for my home shop and they offered little to purchase another one I chose to keep it. It is outside away from me when in use so I'm not worried. In your case I think It is a good opportunity to get a bigger compressor because as others have mentioned, you will need more air than you think and won't have to worry about air if you find you need more in the future.

You want the big one, duh.

I do not have any 220 outlets in the Garage. But I can add them. It would be nice to have a portable one so I can move it but on the other hand You are all right by saying I have never heard anyone say that had to big of a compressor... Time to measure for the big one.

I am looking for a compressor for my home garage too. I checked out the Ingersoll-Rand and it seems like a nice unit, I see that a Maxtool.com has them for $679.99 with free shipping. My question is does anyone know the decibels of this unit? It says "quiet operation" in their write-up but that is subjective. Also, anyone know a place to get the best price? Thanks in advance everyone. Michael

Out of the list of compressors Im having a hard time selecting. This weekend Tracktor supply has the Porter cable 30 Gallon compressor 120/240 volt that looks better than the IR?

What do you all think?

I'd just get the big IR. If you need to reach something, just get more air hose.

I am leaning that way but if I go with the Big one. I have to plumb it and wire it and I don't have any of that. Prices this weekend are really cheap with the most compressors.

Air is confusing and a pain..LOL

This. You might need a few inches from the bung to the first quick disconnect, you can put a drain in there if you want. You can also add more plumbing later.

I would go big for the 60, even if it meant running a new outlet. If portability means going on the road, then the biggest one that fits.

OP . . . based on your uses and demands, +1 for the 60 gal compressor.

It's very common to end up with TWO Compressors. Above Oil-Splash compressor for stationary use and another for your mobile air needs . . . . . . like California Air 10 gal on wheels, which is nice unit that's extremely quiet and low maintenance since Oil-Less.
