I have 3-4 of them in my truck at most times, I just keep them in a plastic milk crate. If I need onr I have it with me. I will admit I do leave the most common used one, 2" 4" drop, in the receiver most of the time. It works with my flat bed, the car hauler, and the hay wagons. Keith

I couldn't agree more. I left mine for two weeks once. It took the assistance of a 3lb sledge to get it out.

If you leave it in after the one time of smacking your shin on it, well you deserve it every time after that. :spit:
A little Anti - Seize Lubricant easily eliminates that problem

Spiffy. Trouble is, we have 4 trucks, and I never know which one

will need a trailer behind on any given day, so each truck carries

its' own tow bar. (2" ball / pintle combination)

Uncle Bob

I always have one or two sizes in the truck and it's never the one I need that day. Same goes with rachet straps.

Love the OP's creation tho. Very tidy.

And when the cop says why he pulled you over, what does he say?

They will tell you why and then fine you for haveing it in with no trailer...Friend of mine has a copy of the fine $50.00 He tried to fight it but guess it is in the vehical code in PA... I don't think to many police go looking for it but you always have that one.

It's the same here in Illinois. The insurance companies are behind it. Too many claims because of them, both personal injury from people walking into them & the added damage they do in a collision. I have several friends & family that are in law enforcement & they will tell you they don't specifically look for them but does give them a reason if they suspect something else such as DWI.

Maybe the hitch was blocking the license plate in some way?

Otherwise, have a read- http://www.silveradosierra.com/towi...er-when-you-arent-towing-t7260-30.html#p60384

I too have heard the rumor lately that it is illegal to keep the hitch in the receiver when not towing in Pennsylvania. I spent close to an hour searching the net for an answer and found many unverifiable claims that in PA it was illegal some going back as far as 2004 I even tried to seek the answer at PA DMV and PENNDOT and could not come up with one. So I called the local Pennsylvania State Police Barracks and the trooper said it was not illegal and he knew nothing on that as a law, his only recommendation was to keep a lock on It if it's left on the vehicle because people steal them.

I leave my hitch attached to my truck, but the trailer is also attached to the hitch. No need to drive the truck without a trailer. I got other cars/trucks for the daily drivers.

A friend told me he saw a guy whack his knee on one in a parking lot. He bent down and pulled the pin and threw it through the back window of the truck.

No real reason to leave them in all the time. Put it behind the seat or in the trunk.

I carry a tri-ball and a home made clevis version. Always seems people sliding off the road are ill prepared.

i would never stow it in the cab of my truck unless it was secured in some fasion. if you were to roll your rig you sure don"t need 20 lbs of iron flying around inside your cab.
same thing goes for tool boxes or anything else.

I put mine away as well. I heard from a guy who knew a guy who might have heard it from a local cop who said it's against the law to just leave it on if you're not using it. Something about defeating the purpose of those easily dented but cheap to replace bumper covers.

If truck nuts are legal, then I suspect leaving the draw bar in would be legal. I would go one further with truck nuts that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Ok got a hold of my friend who got jacked just talking about this again but anyhow....It was a state trooper who pulled him over the ticket was writen as follows... Protruding object (hitch) extending pass the surface of the vehicle as to create a hazard... Wrote it down as he read it to me on the phone even had hitch in ()... He said it cost him $55.00-$50 for the ticket and $5 to go in front of the magistrate..... Me and him have the same hitch I put mine in and measured it and it is only about 7 inches from my bumper so its not like it was out there 2 feet or any thing.... I don't know i wasn't there but he showed a bunch of us the ticket when he first got it and we all told him to fight it that he would win but guess that didn't happen.... but i pull mine as soon as the trailer comes off now

When the Tow bar is fitted the light bar and number plate mount moves up and in the opposite end of the tow bar storage mount.

Every thing bolts up using the standard receiver hitch size tube. Lights and number plate move up and the tow bar unlocks then is locked into place. Mind you every thing is locked with the locking pins and I rarely use a standard pin to hold anything in on the back of the truck except when I have a flag mounted on the back with yet another set of lights.

If you like the truck have a look at >

Sorry not all the pictures are there now as the F4 has been on the road just over three years.

You must have copied that link from an old post, because it says "..." in the middle, which means you copied the TEXT from the post, not the embedded link.

DOH! I found the original link in your signature.
