I figured GarageJournal was the place to go to gloat, ask questions and generally chat about cool old tools (obviously can't talk about this stuff with the lady as she thinks of it as more 'junk' in the garage).
A few weeks ago I scored 2 buckets full of wrenches for $100 from an estate sale. I didn't even have to look through all 170+ wrenches to know this was a good deal. Mostly old craftsman (USA) wrenches - combination, open end, skinny, SAE, metric, ignition, box end, the whole nine yards.
There were also some really cool other wrenches that i'll probably be getting rid of since I don't have a use for them, they're duplicates or just weird one-offs. A giant 1 5/8" round handle S-K, 36mm Hazet, a couple of snap ons, a bunch of Armstrong wrenches and a few wright/proto/husky/vlchek/cornwell. The only non-USA wrench in the lot... a huge 2" combo wrench.
And yesterday I scored an old Proto top chest (26" wide, about 12" deep) that has three small drawers and three full width drawers and of course the top till. I'd love thoughts on whether to resto or just clean and buff (it's kinds rough, lot's of dumb stickers, some rust and loss of paint, but it is cool IMO). I paid $50 and I'm not sure that's that great of a deal. Also, if anyone has thoughts on where to find manufacture date that would be appreciated.
I'll post pics if I can figure out how.
