Last couple of weeks I've noted some things on ratchets I've had to mess with.
Gearwrench 84 tooth long handle, oiled it previous week and went to use it where I had to pull pretty hard and the whole thing came apart. Apparently the snap rings they use dont like to be removed as they can "crush" if compressed too much and therefore not fit properly in to the groove.
I had some of my brothers ratchets to work as I intended to clean & lube them since they've sat for a couple years. Two F80 Snap-on's & one 3/8 88 tooth Matco.
The Snap-on's, one was locked up, the other only went one direction. Took them apart & there was rusty dried grease in them. Tried oil to free them up and that was a no-go. So I got a couple kits from the dealer & installed them. Kind of a pain in the rear with a lot of small parts.
The Matco ratchet was a similar story, but it actually worked (albeit slightly rough) since there was no rusty grease to gum anything up. I basically oiled it, brakekleened it & then re-oiled after some dremel brushing on the cover plate & gear. Works fine now.
