I found a SK 1/2" drive set on Letgo by chance. I scored it for a low, un- disclosed amount! Anyone want to guess how old these are?

Sherman Klove diamond era. I would put it 1950s maybe 40s if the socket stamping reads SK chrome.

That is a beautiful set! The light just shines off those sockets! I'm sure you deserve to be told "you ****" for what you paid for the set!

My best guess would be between 1946 and 1953, possibly a bit newer. I found a 1/2" drive extension at an estate sale yesterday that is about the same vintage.

Here are some 1/4 and 3/8" drive pieces that I acquired new in 1954, if that helps any.

I have a set of Craftsman BE universals, that date from about the 30-40's. They have been around a while.

OP . . . . scoring that set for $20 is indeed worthy of . . . . YOU **** !!!!

I'd be shining that set for myself as lifetime keeper if I were you.

I wouldnt have guessed you could buy universals in 1954 and you really been using those since '54? Cool.

Yes, those flex sockets were available in '54, and have been used regularly along the way. They usually came in a similar green box, but mine have always been loose like that. Those were my first real tool acquisitions, I was twelve in '54. I hid them away from my parents for a few years as I thought they might think I stole them....but I did have a paper route and was just thinking ahead tool wise. They were pretty impressive tools back then too.

The two sets in the boxes were around $8 each and the loose flex sockets were about $5, because of the missing box. I remember it was a major purchase back then and it was spread over a few months. There were never any regrets purchasing any of them.

They were purchased at either S. S. Kresge or Woolworth stores in downtown Edmonton, where I grew up.

Kresge, Woolworth, and Zellers all sold small hand tools back then.

Vintage S K set

Well thanks guys for acknowledging the deal! I liked this set so much that the rust had to go. Seriously, there was no paint left on it besides the logo tag. I sanded it all down the best I could and painted away! This is my first time doing any kind of sheet metal repaint. I chose the newer hammered dark green from Rust-Oleum. Here is a pic or two. And before you rip on me too hard, I do collect vintage tools, but I do use all of my tools. This will make a nice set to keep in my pickup truck. I try to stay away from any kind of cheap Chinese ****, and use vintage us made stuff(in the truck, in my garage at home, or at work). Quality tools are just good to have!
