Receommend some Long Nose External Snap Ring pliers.

I need to remove a field coil from a car a/c compressor. Need to purchase some long nose external snap ring pliers. What have you guys used that were good?

I haven't worked on an AC compressor, so can you clarify whether you're looking for a nonstandard length, longer than the usual, or you just need a set of normal long nose snap ring pliers? Right angle or straight?

And are these "circlips", where there are little ears with holes, or some other type of retainer? If the clip doesn't have the holes, then you'll need a different type of tool.

Yes. They are circlips with the ears and little holes. I think straight long nose pliers would work best.

How good? Get the job done, probably Icon at HF or Astro Pneumatic. Better than that? Knipex or Gedore. To get down in the bore, you're probably going to want a forged steel version, vs. a stamped version.

If you're only wanting one pair, you'll need to measure the depth of the bore and the diameter of the holes in the snap ring (use a drill bit to gage), so that you get it right.

If you need it now, go to HF, if you can wait, Knipex and Gedore are generally a lot cheaper on German Amazon (Amazon.de).

For about the same money, you can get a very nice set of eight internal and external snap ring pliers under the "Icon" name at Harbor Freight. Last time I looked, they were made in Taiwan.

Or you might be able to get one pair of Knipex.

Thanks for the advice. The bore dept is right at 2.125 inches. I have a set of KD pliers with interchangeable tips that usually gets everything done but since this bore is deep and those pliers are thick, it wont reach inside. easily.

I recently stumbled across this on Amazon with a reviewer that used then in the same capacity I want to use them for.
