What is the best way to turn on the workbench light via motion detection?

Motion detector from HD powered from a GFCI to a dedicated receptacle?

Or?

And GO!!!

Either replace your current switch with a motion sensor switch or get a motion sensor switch with plugs into and outlet and plug your light into it.

Motion sensor switch. My garage lights and house lights have all been wired into those switches for a while. One problems is a lot of those switches don't like florescent bulbs, they flicker and cause short lifespans. Usually only a problem with low wattage bulbs, I've had mine wired into 4 T8 fixtures for years and don't have a problem

I'm an Insteon fan. So I would link an Insteon motion detector to an Insteon outlet/relay.

Gives you flexibility and tons of room for future expansion :)
