Recessed can lights or strip lights?

building my garage now, and the ceiling will be drywalled. Im debating going recessed can lights in there, but dont know if they will give off enough light compared to 4' strip lights.

Anyone else do cans in their garage? pics? regrets?

Also anyone know any flush 4' strip lights?

Lots of folks do it. You'll likely need alot more of them than you'd think, though. The new way to do it is with wafer lights...no cans necessary, and they come in all sizes colors, etc..
You have lots of other choices, too. Flat panels are popular, highbays if your ceiling is over 15', UFO's are trendy, too.

I did both!

I ran 4" LED cans (IC rated) AND T5HO 4' and 8' lights because there are times when I just want to go out in the garage and grab something vs. times where I want to be able to see every speck of dirt.

That's with both on, but mainly the T5HO's.

4" LEDs on - I didn't lock the camera exposure, but you can see the difference. Obviously if I were to light the garage solely with the recessed I would have added more - but I just wanted a sort of nice ambient light. Good luck!

If you try and hit 100fc at 32", it will take a lot of fixtures. A garage a little smaller than 30 X 40 may need a suggested number of 12 each 90 amp led fixtures. It would take a hundred cans to provide similiar light.

It would be very even lighting.

I have 18 cans in my garage.....set up in 3 zones.

It's plenty of light for general work. But I also have task lighting...specifically under cabinet lighting.....which I only use about 30% of the time.

I too wanted the smooth ceiling look and am very glad I went this route. I installed 4' troffers in a flush mount frame from the wholesale house....little bit of framing but I am very Happy.
