I picked up 6 2-packs of 6" Patriot Lighting recessed lights at Menards when they had them for 99 cents after rebate. I have 12 individual lights for under $10. :bounce: I figured the price couldn't be beat, and that I would find some use for them.

I'm looking to finish my 2-stall this spring/summer, and am considering using the recessed lights in there. I'm a bit concerned however with how bright they will be versus florescent fixtures.

So I am interested in how many of you were faced with a similar decision and why you chose what you did. Also, pictures of installed recessed lights would be very helpful! All insight is greatly appreciated!

I avoid "off-breed" recessed cans, one gets what one pays for & the cans are listed for specific trims so getting replacements may be a problem in the future.

That would be a concern of mine if I didn't have attic access. Completely replacing them shouldn't be a big problem if they did go bad.

Doing a search on here I found a few guys who swear by recessed lights in their shop, saying there really isn't a big difference between them and florescents. It seems unlikely to me, but I have never used any recessed lights before.

I could always do a couple of 48" flourescents in the middle of the shop and recessed around the edge. :headscrat

I think you need to go to someones house/shop to see what the recessed lights are like... i think you would be very dissapointed if you tried to light the entire shop with them...

Without knowing more about the light fixtures it's difficult to make any recommendations...they may or may not work. What model number are they, what style bulb, how many watts?

It's a 9' ceiling at the moment. I might be able to raise/lower it when I remodel but I will probably just leave it where it's at.

I know some guys on here have installed recessed cans like this and seem pretty happy...so I was hoping for some first hand experience. I can always just install them around the edges of the garage and do a couple 48" fixtures in the middle or something. I have to figure out exactly how I want the garage arranged before I make any decisions.

I love recessed lighting, but I can never decide how to install each room - what lamp size to use, spacing, etc. I just upgraded my first floor living room and office, and found a great way - I picked the spacing I thought would work, and then printed circles the exact size of the trim on my printer. I used painters tape to stick them to the ceiling, which gave me a great idea of how they would look when installed.

In a garage, I think recessed lights would be nice for accent but I think fluorescent will be your primary project light source. I would space the recessed around the perimeter (I'd plan on about 5' from the walls with a 6" can), and then fill the center with fluorescent.
