On the hunt for lighting in my garage (not built yet). It's a 3 car ~ 36ft wide x 25ft deep. Ceiling height is ~11'4" (just tall enough for baseplate type 2 post lift.

Due to the somewhat low ceilings and the fact that lights need to be installed directly over the lift bay I need recessed lights. I would like to use ~9x 1ft x 4ft T8 florescent troffers but I cannot find any that are IC (insulation contact rated). There are a couple of LED options however they are ~ $200/light with the drywall trim kit.

Anyone have any other ideas??

Regular can lights could work but I would need over 36 units and that would be quite a bit of money for the electrician to install during the build.

Why not turn the lights 90 degrees and place them between the cars???

Leave 3 or 4 running as you have them agaisnt the rear wall (for workbenchges, etc) then place 8 lights (2 each) at the wall, in between and at the wall

Two tube LEDs will get you 4400 lumen per fixture 12 fixtures is 52800 lumen... about 60 luemn per sq ft. I am at about 95.

I reject the need to use recessed...there is ONE spot on that ceiling where you MAY be close- about 4x4 in the middle of the lift bay, where a car roof MIGHT come close. IMO

What lift needs 11'4"? If the lift is that high, build a 12' wall. Then you'll clear with the regular fluorescents.

If you're dead set at the 11'4", don't put the lights right over the posts. Your pic doesn't show them over the posts anyway.

You'll still want lights in between the vehicles as noted above.

11'4 is as high as I can go (it's an attached garage) and will mess with the elevation so that is set. And the issue is that where the door comes up will also need to be as close to the ceiling as possible so the door can be opened when a car is on the lift. If lights are placed in that area it takes away from the overhead clearance.

I also like the clean look of recessed. I guess I could add some standard cans in that area and do the normal T8 everywhere else.

Just wondering if anybody knows a product that would get me what I was looking for.

I'm not sure, you can select your type and building size in the link and see what properties will be obtained to the two varies sizes of room you have.

You'll have to pay attention to this close application of the garage door to the ceiling. This also affects the structural layout and the actual opening of the door.

Flat Panel LED. Less than an inch thick, except for the driver box on the back That's about 2 inches more, which can be recessed into the ceiling. They're less than $100 each.
Another solution would be to mount electrical boxes into the ceiling. There are super slim fixtures of various shapes and sizes that are less than an inch thick that will mount right to the boxes.
