Recessed wall storage ideas

Hi guys

I have a recessed area of my wall where a window used to be. Contemplating just closing it off with plywood like the rest of the wall or maybe using it for storage.

Anyone have any ideas for storage that could be put into a recessed 2x4 wall like this? Aerosol cans and caulking tubes was my first idea, but this building is not insulated or heated in the winter, so I store those inside. Not sure what else 🤷‍♂️

These storage boxes were built into a curtain wall in my basement at the last Michigan house.
They were over a counter that served as a secondary work surface.

I found them very useful.

Thanks. That’s looks good. I think your wall is significantly deeper than mine though

Nothing says that you cannot use 6 or 8" deep shelving across that opening. Now that you have some deeper shelves many more options open up to you. If you look in my build below you can see how I made a storage wall.

I recessed my EVSE this way, to avoid it sticking out in the path of where I would normally walk. An added bonus was that the 25' cord coiled more neatly than if were unrestrained at the sides.

2x4 is just too shallow to be effective imo. you can add deeper plywood to make it deeper but then you're just making a cabinet. I'd box it in.
