Streamlight's are great. I personally have there Strion which I love, it is great for just about anything. Very small and light but rechargeable and extremely bright. I personally would say look into the Strion which is the new police issue light for many departments but I don't think you can go wrong with Streamlight.

I also have a Streamlight Survivor that I use as a firefighter and it never ceases to amaze me on how bright it is in heavy smoke conditions. As a firefighter I also use the LiteBox from streamlight on a regular basis as that is the light of choice on all of our trucks and we beat the hell out of them and still have some going from the eighties that have only had bulb and batteries replaced. I would guess we have at least 20 of the LiteBoxes and have had very few problems. Oh I almost forgot I also have one of their 4AA polymer lights that works very well for a non rechargeable light.

Streamlight seems to be the leader in the rechargables.I have a couple of Liteboxes at work and I own one personally. When new,you can count on 8 hrs of use between charges, but as the batteries get older and go through more charge cycles, run time decreases. If the other lights in the line are near as good, you won't go wrong with one.

I dont know if you have any around your area but try going to either a police or a fire supply store and checking them out. Streamlight caters to those markets so those stores would likely stock them and let you feel and try the different models.

They make a flashlight for just about every job, all you have to decide is what style fits your needs, how bright, how big, and how long do you want it to run for. I have found that the Stinger is nice but it is bigger than I want to carry with me (I have a Smith and Wesson rechargeable that is very close to the stinger that is mounted in my truck) that is why I chose the Strion. It is small and light and I can drop it in a pocket and forget about it, yet when I go to use it there is more than enough light to do anything you would want and it is tiny compared to the Stinger. If I want something bigger I go for my Survivor or litebox.

As to the batteries on the liteboxes they do definatley go bad but they are cheap when you consider flashlight batteries and they are easy to replace.

I've got a couple of Makita's that I've used for several years in a auto repair enviroment. They came in a set with the cordless drills. They come in handy in power failures because they stand up on thier own and you can swivel the head from straight up to slightly down. That and you can have multiple batteries charged and ready to go.

DO NOT BUY FROM POLICE OR FIRE DEPARTMENT SUPPLY STORES.....they sell them far higher then normal retail places to **** the cops and firefighters.....either buy them from a retail joint or online...not from Police Fire supply houses...you wont get a good price

First I never said buy, I said try. There is a lot to be said for going to a store and trying the light first then buying it from an online discounter. Second apparently you dont know the Police and Fire store market because I paid 40 dollars under retail (and I dont mean list price) for my Strion and my Survivor both from Fire Dealers. I aggree that you need to shop around but dont make the generalization that they are all over priced. Remember list price is the same for everyone it just depends on how much they discount.

I agree. I don't use a flashlight enough to justify the expense of a rechargeable one. But I picked up a couple flashlight bodies cheap on ebay for use with my Makita 12v tool batteries. Works out well.

I think for most things the rechargeable tool lights are perfect. I have one with 2 of my sets and I find I grab them all of the time for things around the house and shop. I especially like having more than one battery for the light.

I work in an aircraft maintenance hangar (airline) with several hundred other mechanics. The stinger you show is by far the most popular flashlight there is where I work. I have an Ultra Stinger, bigger light head and lens, and longer battery, but it is bulky and heavy.

Do alot of shopping for a good price, they are everywhere. As someone already noted, the police/security supply stores will have them for you to look at, possibly a competitive price.
