For what you're using it for...have at it, it will last you a lifetime. I am partial to Milwaukee, but in this instance, you might as well get the Makita.

Lots of times if the power tool is less than new, might be a recon also called a reconditioned tool. That $80.00 tool might be a reconditioned tool.I have a couple Milwaukees, the best one on the market.

I need to lead with I love DeWalt tools, almost everything I own is DeWalt, from my hammer drill, impact driver, sanders, miter saw, ect...but this is one category where they fell short. I am sure it works, but it just doesn't have the power or smoothness as the Milwaukee. This is the one category where I wouldn't go with DeWalt. I have used them, and they just don't compare to the Milwaukee.

When I click on the link it came up 149.00. If you can get it for 80 then jump on it. I have a Milwaukee saw which is the only Milwaukee power tool I have. Great saw. I have a couple of battery powered ones, DeWalt and Hilti, as well that do almost but not quite the job of the Milwaukee.

I've had a Porter Cable Tigersaw for about 12 years now. It's been great and I actually like the ergonomics of it better than the old Milwaukee Sawzall it replaced. I'm sure the makita would be fine as well.

I have a 15 year old corded Milwaukee Sawzall that has worked flawlessly. Great tool! But then I bought a multi-tool cordless Milwaukee 18V tool set (circular saw, 3/8 drill/driver, flashlight and sawzall). All the 18V tools worked beautifully except for the 18V sawzall model #2620-20. The first sawzall failed after a few days after my original purchase in 2010. I exchanged it at the store and now I am in the same boat again. I just took the saw apart and it was a bad switch. The parts are on order, $65.00 has been taken out of my account and I have a small electrical repair project in a few weeks. I love Milwaukee tools, but this particular 18V sawzall has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have had the Dewalt DW938K 18v unit. I've used it for several years and it is a pretty decent unit. It has plenty of power but def. lacks the smoothness of operation that the Milwaukee.

I have a cordless Milwaukee drill that's served me very well for many years. However found I'm more partial to DeWalt for some reason, many of my other power tools are mostly DeWalt. This Makita saw I found on the cheap though. :D

where are you getting it for $80? That link on amazon shows $149.

Sorry I wasn't able to find the saw on Makita's website when I was searching earlier, so just linked the saw from Amazon so you could see the stats. At any rate there is a local guy on Craigslist selling the saw and agreed to take $80 for it.

Here's a review from fine homebuilding.

It was best overall...enjoy your purchase.

Thanks for the link of the review and that website, I'm certainly going to bookmark that site.

I did go pick up the saw today, brand new in box and not a refurb. Pretty happy with the saw and certainly for the price I paid. For what little work it will probably get from me it should last forever.

i bought the DW304PK today but now I cant decide if I should have gotten the Milwaukee at HD for $119...

Thoughts?

It is 10amp motor, not a fair comparison to a 12amp milwaukee. You will need compare milwaukee to the 12amp dewalt or 12amp bosch. All three of those saws have more power. So they are better for cutting thick steel. They are all pretty good.

I have the Makita JR3070T AVT model and it's nice and powerful. Only downside I have found is the blade holder doesn't grip that well and loses grip on the blade when it binds sometimes. It seemed to work best with Makita's own brand blades.
