Recognize this Hand Truck?

Our team came across this old hand truck in a storage room. Very old but in good shape except for a broken wheel. I’ve searched Grainger & a few other sites but not found a similar wheel.

I don’t find any name or trademark on it. It may have been designed for cylinders, as it is rather narrow & shaped about right. Does anyone recognize it & have a clue about wheels? We will wind up scrapping it if we css as my find a wheel.

If it doesn't have a chain I doubt it was for cylinders. Mcmaster-Carr has a boatload of wheels and if you can't find one to match just buy two of the same.

Nope. Not for cylinders. Just a plain cheap steel handtruck with stair runners. Back in the 80s my workplace used to use them until they stepped up to Magliners.

Just buy a pair. The remaining wheel is likely not great anyway.

should be an easy buy. measure the axle and the OD of the wheel.
and as others have said, buy 2 , they're cheap

Just get any other wheel that will fit your hand truck... I think most of them are 5/8 bore ? Or do you expect to restore to factory shine ?

A previous school where I taught was throwing out a hand truck minus the wheels. I asked if I could take it, they said yes. I got two wheels from Lowes and gave it ti my FIL. It's still working for my BIL.

I think I found the closest thing I can. McMaster-Carr has an 8 inch solid rubber wheel on plastic core. Original is 7.5 inches which I don't see anywhere. It's old enough that 1/2 inch of rubber could have come off. Original is die cast core with grease fitting. Both have ball bearings, 3/4 axle. About 20 bucks. I'll see if the boss will order a couple. Would be a shame not to have this ready to use. It is very sturdy, well made. I'm like my depression era father, I hate to throw anything away & I get worse as I get older.

Hardware store Carrie's heavy duty 8" wheels for hand trucks. They are maybe $10 each.

Almost bought a set for a welder cart, but decided to hold off until I had a design in mind.

Buy wheels with solid, airless tires, avoid the headache.

What size is on the tires and what size axle is it?
There is also a off set, is the bearing pack even on both sides or is one side shorter then the other?

That's not terribly old Freight companies still use something similar today.
