Hi GJ,

Please recommend a better way or what you would do when installing 4x8 Hardie panels on a shed.

I plan to install 4x8 Hardie panel sheets that look like stucco. I read that uncoated aluminum corrodes when in contact with cement board and that PVC or vinyl or coated aluminum is a good choice for trim. I watched a Hardie Panel YouTube video that showed H trim is a better choice for vertical joints instead of caulk due to the trim lasting longer. When I cover the 10 ft tall gable end, I see Hardie recommends a z flashing at the top of the 8 ft sheets. I am having trouble finding 5/16 inch PVC or viny Z flashings that would extend slightly past the 5/16 inch thick Hardie sheets. I am also having a hard time finding PVC or vinyl outside corner trims at the big box stores HD and Lowes. I will call Gulf Eagle, ABC supply and any others this week to see what they stock.

My house is block with stucco, so I would like the shed to look somewhat like the house. I would prefer not to use the baton strips for the vertical joints as I think the H molding would look cleaner. I finished hammering on the house wrap with cap nails yesterday. This is my first time using cement board and any recommends are appreciated!

Here is the install video I watched

I thought Hardie made H and Z trim? Batten strips are used a lot though.
Hardie does make H and Z aluminum trim as it is shown on their website but HD and Lowes do not sell it, so I need to call around to find a source. Thanks for the reply!

Hi GJ,

It is a rainy day in Florida and I wanted to close out all the threads I opened:

I used Tamlyn trim and I think the product is fantastic.

It is difficult to buy. The local Lansing and a local mom and pop shop initially ordered the wrong part numbers compared to the receipt. I ended up driving to a lumber yard 1+ hour away that regularly stocked the Tamlyn trim and was very happy with the far away lumber yard.

My advice is:
1) Call Tamlyn to figure out who stocks it regularly (not a casual distributor but who sells Tamlyn trim regularly)
2) Do not order from the supplier unless the supplier gives you a order receipt with the part number ordered in the event the supplier orders the wrong part numbers.
3) It’s a great product, it does take some leg work to find, but it’s worth it.

The homeowner built shed is complete, the accessory structure is signed off by the city inspector and here are the pictures. Thank you for all the guidance!

I used hardi on my home, the shop gables, Well house, and shed. I used Azek trim on all of it. The house was first built so 11 yrs now and the Azek looks like new. Great stuff
