3/8 and 1/2 impacts,Ingersall Rand and you can't kill an IR.Snap On makes the best air ratchets,The FAR7200 and FAR72C models are reliable.Watch where your hands are, will take your hand off if not careful.Matco makes one too,the Pitbull and you make sure to have both hands on it,powerful. The Craftsman is basically a throw away when it breaks. With the Snap On,you can have them sent out to get rebuilt and is worth the money

If you want something with a lot of power check out the chicago pneumatic CP7830Q or any of the cp830 line. They are rated up to 90 ft lbs. Cheapest place I have seem them for is at landmesser tools for about $115.

Do to lack of bunches of money I went with the AirCat Nito 1200 1/2" impact and Air rachet 3/8" 90 ft.lbs. So far they are impressive, I think MAC is now rebaging them for their own.

Thanks, JASTECH

For everyday shop use I prefer to use a composite body ratchet like the IR Titanium series. They don't get cold and make your hand cramp like all-metal ones do. In the home shop I like a cordless impact.

Hard to go wrong with Cp or I-R stuff the IR109 air ratchet is great I have used mine daily for over ten years and my impacts are real old and no problems

Snap-on FAR-72C is the one I use the most and they are almost bulletproof. For 1/4", I like the IR Titanium because the head is nice and flat and can get into tighter places.

save yourself the money just get an IR Hammerhead 2015MAX and be done with it. I've had access to one for a couple projects now and i dont even touch the air ratchet anymore. More power, fully adjustable, and saves your hands from being smashed.

I know i'm not alone with retiring the air ratchets in favor of the hammerhead.

Only negative is the price since it just came out, which really isnt much if you were looking at a truck brand air ratchet anyway.

A 2135QTIMAX is essentially the best 1/2" impact you'll find for the money. Well balanced, quiet, light, excellent trigger, and very powerful.

so is this essentially an impact AND a ratchet all in one I assume? I just looked at it on ebay real quick. I don't use a lot of this type of tool at work, mostly hand tools for the actual wrenching type stuff...
and ebay only had 3 listed, and two of the adds say it's on back order and you can reserve one.... and 300 price tag isn't exactly wallet friendly. :shocking:

I'm actually in the market for something like this for use in my garage, so any real world info is appreciated....

and for work use, what do yall recommend for a 1/4 drive air ratchet? nothing to torquey, because I'm working on aircraft.

I've owned Snapon impacts and IR's, I have to give it to the IR's as I find they are better balanced, reliable and powerful doller for doller.

Any IR Titanium impact is nice (I own a 2135ti, 2115ti), now in regards air ratchets id go for an older Snapon FAR72C air ratchet which is built like a tank (I havent been able to kill mine yet)

I forgot the prices paid, sorry. The AirCat 1/2" impact 1200k 800lbs was 179.00 and the 3/8" 90 lbs. ratchet was 99.00. The ratchet already caught my dad by surprise and smashed his hand! removing OEM top shock bolts on my 88' F-350.

Thanks, JASTECH

My IR 3/8 air ratchet is great. I forget the model and such but I love it. I got a Mac 1/4 air ratchet that was used off eBay and that thing is great too. I got it so cheap I don't care if it breaks.

I've been meaning to look into air ratchets. Getting one could save me time (and money) on a few projects, but how are these compared to the 7200/72C

How's the Snappy FAR2505 and the 1/2 drive (Japanese-made) AT705B?

These would be for light-duty, occasional assembly work.

Are the 7200/72C re-badged?

Are the 7200/72C re-badged? No, they are actual Snap-On air tools.... I don't know about the others; check snapon.com..... COO, "bluepoint" label usually is a dead giveaway...

The hammerhead really comes into its own depending on the application. Cant speak for planes but for things like transmission or suspension, its gold. The big reason i think you should consider it is the fact that you dont own an air ratchet yet. Otherwise for "upgrading" it may not be worth the money. There are a few owners on here all with positive comments, not a whole lot have been sold, they literally just started shipping like 3 months ago.

Thanks for the response.

SO doesn't appear to indicate when a tool is rebadged via the website.

COO, "bluepoint" label usually is a dead giveaway...

Likewise, BP label isn't merely an indicator of rebadging (nor is it necessarily mean the tool was made out of the US -- I've bought probably 25 BP tools in the past year that were made in the USA). SO also rebrands (e.g. grip on pliers, some torque wrenches, at least, etc.).

From what I am reading, everyone recommends the Snap-on FAR series air ratchets.

In aviation, I prefer the 1/4" air ratchets. How does the FAR25C compare? There is no need for 3/8" in aviation. Too much power, and it's too large to fit in tight spaces.
