looking for a portable "boost box" to start vehicles with dead batteries
want something strong to start even the deadest car battery and possibly something strong enough to start diesel engines
what do you all use ?
i would like to get a decent one for 150.00 or less
so far all i have found is one at h.f. for bout 40.00 but it only has power of 400 amps that will most likley not start much of anything

I don't own any vehicles with cheap enough to replace electronics that I would be willing to jump start with the battery dead. I pull the ground lead off the battery and charge the battery for a few minutes to get "some" charge, reconnect the ground and hook the charger back up in 20 amp mode, give it a couple more min then switch to 70 amp start, and hasn't failed to start anything yet.

If you have a used car lot, don't care what happens to the cars, then most any wheeled box with a battery inside should do.

Supposedly we are going to get some new super duty jump box in the next week or two. It is said to be the size of a laptop computer. When we get it I'll play with it, the jump box that is, and give you a review.

Have one that built and it has held up great. The store bought jumper boxes do not hold up.You can make your own which is cheaper. All you need is a lawnmower battery with 300 to 330 CCA,good cheap set of jumper cables to cut a postive and negative end off of and heavy duty ends to bolt to the lawnmower battery. When not in use, hook up to a battery tendor
