hi guys,

i'm looking for a decent 1/4" hex shank drill bit set.

really i just want it for my milwaukee 2505 installation driver's 90° and offset attachments:

so i guess it doesn't really even need to be impact rated.

i'd use it mostly for wood and occasionally for metal.

open to suggestions for something that's not complete ****.

bonus points if the index/case doesn't **** (hard to get the drill bits in and out, latch doesn't stay closed, etc).

and since it's GJ, i'd also consider something actually nice or even upscale.

i was thinking of getting this 23pc milwaukee set 48-89-4631 $25:

no 1/2" drill though so idk (only goes up to 3/8"). i know i'll kick myself if i ever need that one.

strangely, CPO has one with identical model number but different bits. it includes a 1/2" bit:

no free shipping though.

this 30pc COMOWARE set is looking ok for about $25 after coupon:

^ why's the 17/64" bit so long? lol

thanks

Milwaukee, DeWalt, Bosch, and Makita branded bits and suchlike are consistently very good quality and easily available off the shelf. I'd poke around for a sale and grab one of those brands.

This is one place where I'd definitely skip the Harbor Freight and the other assorted weird Chinese brand items. These can end up under a lot of stress, so it's worth getting good stuff.

In your case, those Milwaukee sets look pretty darn good, and the case would match...

I bought a few of the Milwaukee sets a couple of years back. They work very well and the case is solid. These sets can be had for little to almost nothing in the post holiday clearance sales.

+1 for the Milwaukee.

I avoid hex-shanked drill bits when I can, but will use the Milwaukee on occasion for convenience. So far, so good.

Bosch’s case is pretty nice for drill bits and power bits, though not for 1” insert bits. I’ve only had mine for a month and used one of my bits 4x so can’t comment on quality.
