<OK guys; Let's keep it clean in here>

I'm going to be doing some maintenance on my drawer slide tool box in the next couple of weeks. Can someone recommend a good lubricant for the drawer slides? I'm not sure what to use; I want to get it right and avoid think grease slowing down the drawer or light oil dripping off the slides.

Any tips / tricks on dismantling your toolbox for cleaning such as the a good cleaner to use? I plan on using Simple Green unless someone else has a better suggestion. I don't want to damage the paint in any way.

This is my first time doing this so any tips or tricks are appreciated.

I am very fond of Wurth HHS 2000, but any silicone based lubricant I would think would be fine, or look for one of the good dry lubes depending on the type of slide.

PB Blaster now makes a dry lube garage door lubricant in a spray can' I've used it with great results on a couple of my tool boxes with friction sliders.

Thanks Rickster - I'll check that out. Where is the best place to buy online?

Danglerb - The slides are friction slides

I have A Craftsman box with friction slides. I took them out of the Box and coated the rails with white lithium grease. It may be a little messy, but the drawers slide like butter now.

Grease - The problem I've had with using grease on friction slides is that the slides just push the grease out of the way. A low viscosity grease like the white lithium would probably work better.

Oil - I've got some of the garage door lube made by PB Blaster and it's good stuff. It's important to separate the garage door lube PB Blaster makes from the catalyst oil known as the original PB Blaster for busting free rusted parts; you should not use the catalyst oil for long term lubrication because it's corrosive; I suspect it has acid in it. The garage door lube is an entirely different product.

What to use? - I'm thinking I'd try a light oil first like PB's garage door lube, Tri-Flow, LPS or something along those lines.

The bicycle guys are on the edge of whats best, effective dry lubes that don't attract or even actively resist dirt. Slides are less exposed, so I would use the HHS 2000, but the PB Blaster is ok too if thats a lot easier for you to buy.

The trick to many of these sprays is the use of a solvent carrier that penetrates then fully evaporates leaving the lubricant deep inside the device.

I have Tri-Flow and White Lightning already from my mountain biking days. I didn't think of these at all.

I want something that doesn't attract dirt and grime.

Is White Lightning similiar to the PB Blaster garage door lube?
