Recommend a Set of Snap Ring Pliers

I need a set of snap ring pliers. I went to use mine (a cheap set with exchangeable tips) and somehow the part that locks the tips on has gone missing. I'm thinking it's finally time to upgrade to a quality set, and I've never been a big fan of the changeable tips. I've been looking at a Snap On set, but since I'm just a DIY guy working on my own cars, it's hard for me to justify that much. However, I will if I need to for quality. Any recommendations?

Knipex! Cheaper than snap-on and they work amazing.

I was also originally going to buy the larger set, but honestly the 45 degree and 90 degree snap ring pliers aren't really something I've ever felt the need to have and i am a mechanic...

Snap ring pliers, IMO, is one of the few things Snap On does poorly. I have the Knipex precision set of 8 that this forum recommended. They're OK, but nothing to write home about. Their large forged jaws are sometimes a hindrance in tight spaces.

Maybe all snap ring pliers just ****?

I purchased some Tekton snap-ring pliers from Amazon, great price and they've worked great.

That's because almost all the US brands use rebadged Stride brand, including, (but not limited to) Craftsman, Millbar, Mac, Matco, SnapOn & Cornwell.
The ONLY difference is the color of the box & the color of the handles. Prices vary from under $100 (Craftsman) to damn near $300 (SnapOn) for the exact same set.
I managed to get the $98 Craftsman set on clearance for $34.00 many years ago.

I have the SK set both inner and outer handles with interchangeable bits. Simple and works.

Good, but not stellar. I will add that I do NOT like the kind of snap ring pliers you have to take apart and put back together to change from inner to outer. Total pain in the **** if you need the same pair to switch back and forth and difficult to do with greasy hands. This set is not like that, there are inner and outer pairs, adding cost for convenience. They are pretty high quality though.

That is old information. Snap-on makes their own snap-rings pliers. They are convertible with the twist of a screw. You can genuinely see that they make their own now by the handles and colour that match their other pliers.

i thought they rebadged the stride and also offered their own heavier duty forged set?

Now they just have the forged set only?

I have knipex, similar to what's been posted, for what they are I think they are the best and also best prized . However sometimes they are a bit bulky , I'm looking for a slim set for sometime now but the need is not there yet.

I bought this set a couple months back from Germany using Amazon Prime. Good experience and save a ton.

I'm also a big Knipex fan must have a dozen assorted Knipex pliers.

I got tired of my interchangeable tip version when tryin to disassemble the head on my Bridgeport.

The first use of these Knipex was on the head. Didn't fit. Pins were too large for the snap ring with even the smallest pair. So I had to go back to the el cheapos to get her done.

Subsequently I've been using them for other jobs and they do work great. Just be aware the sizes of the tips might not correlate to what you have for snap rings on your junk.

I just received my Lang set from Tooltopia this afternoon.
It was about $75 for the 12 piece set and is made in the USA.

I just priced it out from amazon.de and it comes to $118.21 shipped and that's without amazon prime. The cheapest I could get the same set for in the US is $131.75, and that's normally jet.com $155 price minus 15% off for first order. So, $13 isn't a whole lot of money but if you're willing to wait a bit longer it seems worth it.

I sell TOPTUL and TOPTUL makes some really nice snap ring pliers (stole the design from Knipex) but for myself I bought LANG. Best bang for the buck without a doubt.
