I started a new job 1.5 months ago as a commercial building mechanic. I don't travel outside the building to work. So size and weight is not much of an issue.
I looking to replace my temporary tote with something more functional.
I hate the pockets on these totes. I used pencil holders in tote to keep all items vertical and visible. That has been working out amazing. I basically looking for a bucket tote. Any ideas?

Milwaukee 13" and 26" Job Site Boxes...:bounce:

I own the 13", and it is a MUCH BETTER BUCKET!!!:rocker:

$32.00 from www.homedepot.com:bowdown:

The 26" is $40.00 from the same source...

Haven't seen a 26", but, if it's like the 13", it will do your job...

The 13" makes a day-um comfortable stool, too...The handle is also real easy on the hands when it's loaded down...

Do you have access to an elevator, only stairs or just one floor? I know you mention weight isn't an issue but if yoh are in a plant or have any great distance to go, wheels are nice. Or possibly a Veto type knapsack ?

Another vote for Veto Pro Pac.

I have a Tech-LC and a Tech-XL for the same purpose. I use them when I go off site or don't need all of the contents in my roll cart. The organization is excellent and they fit a lot of stuff.

I also have the Milwaukee 26" box mentioned above. I use it for taking power tools and parts off site but I wouldn't want to lug it around all day by hand. It's a great box but it's big and can be heavy if full.

I can't help you with a brand, but I will say that for me, having a shoulder strap is a must. The place where I work has 5S workstations and tool carts that don't have extra tools. I don't like going on a scavenger hunt for tools when I need them, so I have a small Husky tool bag with the essentials. I can sling it over one shoulder and walk from location to location at a moment's notice, and it keeps my hands free. I don't use my tools every day so I can get away with an inexpensive bag, but I'd seriously consider a shoulder strap if you have to do a lot of walking.

building is 22 story 200' wide with elevators in center. So not much travel distance. Roof has 2 flights of stairs, but not much work up there.

Shoulder strap would be a nice plus..

If all the tools you are carrying are shown in the pic you posted, then the OT-XXL is overkill for your needs, you could fit all those things into the LC. Now, if you needed to also carry an extension cord and some materials/hardware like a lockset or plumbing fittings, then I could see getting the larger one. You really should look at one in a store or from a vendor with a liberal return policy.

I dislike open topped bags for a few reasons. If I'm working outside and it starts to rain, the contents get wet and some tools will start to rust. Not so much with the OT Veto models as they have a rigid bottom, but mostly the soft side totes or belt pouches is when they tip over, the contents spill out. And open topped bags invite the passerby to borrow your tool without asking.

I'm pretty sure the XXL comes with a shoulder strap. The bags can get really heavy when full, I use the strap when walking with the bag.

Speaking of shoulder straps, I swapped my stock Veto strap out with a Tom Bihn Absolute Shoulder Strap, it was well worth the 30 bucks.

I use the Veto tech LC. Even that gets quite heavy, if I am not careful, and I have to walk from my truck into vet clinics and grooming shops to do repairs and sharpening. I get a lot of comments on how good it looks and how organized it is with all the tools right at my finger tips. Most of my customers are women........maybe they think I have a better purse than they do! LOL

It is easy to open and close the bag and I don't have to worry about tools falling out. If I need to walk away for a minute, I zip it up, and people are not likely to look at or play with any of my tools.

If you end up not liking it, I have always liked the AWP stuff at Lowe's. They have stiff, but soft sided totes similar to those. This is coming from a guy who has a Veto Tech XL, and has a serious prejudice against every Lowe's house brand, and I still like the AWP stuff.
