Have a Honda 300 4x4 and a couple of SXS. Will use it on trails to get to the back of our 10 acre property. Will be hauling lumber and brush/logs up and down some decent hills. Not looking to spend crazy money on this but better than Vevor type stuff. Looking at Yutrax but wondering if anyone has real world experience with any brands. Not going to build one either.

I bought the Vevor last year and it is pretty decent quality for what it cost. Even the smaller Bosski start at $1100 now days.

Good question. I am in the same situation and have been looking at the Yutrax (available at TSC & Amazon) and Northern Tool offerings. Not sure I like the ones with the wire mesh bottoms - they don't appear very rugged. Was recently thinking more about a poly cart. Would like to have 1200 - 1500 lb capacity for fire wood. I like the DR Versa Trailer but it is only 1000 lbs - plus it's pricey - I think you get what you pay for in this category.

I bought one of these Northern tool (ultra tow 40x48" aluminum) trailers back during covid, early 2020ish, and screwed 5/4 treated deckboards onto it. Bought a few stake pocket brackets from the interwebs and drilled holes/bolted to the trailer; built location specific removable side walls and front/rear panels out of 2x4's and more 5/4 deck boards.

It tows great behind our 750 brute forces (we load it up with multiple plastic recycle bins that we fill with nasty lake snails and seaweed for dumping in the back 40 at the cottage). It could use some beefier offroad tires, but mostly it's use is low speed around the property. Have taken it 5 miles loaded to the gills with gravel in the bins too, 40mph, no issues either. It is way too small to be dragged behind a normal road going pickup truck, but is the perfect size for a quad or sxs. They make longer ones, but I thru trial and error hooking up to other family member's longer trailers, found much harder to navigate in tight areas or trails.

Dog approved.

HF have their trailer back out yet ? If not, maybe a used one cheap off CK or FBMP ?

Can you fab one up yourself ? I remember seeing in Farm show magazine, someone built a trailer out of a 275 fuel oil tank, laid over on it's side.

I picked up one of these, found a good used one, rugged and solid. I converted it to electric hydraulic , this thing is great offroad, no problem in the woods. Great for projects where you can't access with a bigger trailer and it doesn't tear up the turf. It's sold under a few names, too bad it doesn't come with electric hydraulic.

I am looking at this 1250 lb capacity poly trailer with 18" wheels from Ohio Steel (4048PS-ATV, not the 4048PS-HYB that has the 16" wheels).

t appears to be the same as the trailer sold by DR Equipment currently on sale for $599 and this one from Tractor Supply sold for $499. I live in Columbus where Ohio Steel is located - wonder if they have a factory store. Don't see it on their website.

Here is what I use with my Honda Rancher

Bought this one at TSC, it's been holding up pretty good. I use it to haul debris and stuff out to my bee hives when I'm working/checking them.

This is my other one that I've had a long time. I've had to replace the wheels twice on it and I had to add steel plates on top of the plastic since the bolts pulled through in multiple places and broke the plastic.

I have that one, bought it from Tractor Supply a coupler of years ago. Has been a great investment for me. I recently swapped the original coupler with a ball coupler making connecting it to my quad much easier for me. The swivel function has been very beneficial, did a lot of tree pruning and was able to dump the loads where I wanted without much fuss. My mailman drove up to the house to drop off an oversize package and saw the trailer connected to my quad, asked a few questions and he ended up buying one for his use.

I had one of the HF bolt together trailers and it help up surprisingly well behind my ATV hauling firewood, loam, mulch etc for many years. I wanted something better and would dump so i made one but if you dont want to make one, the HF trailers will take a fair amount of abuse.

We have a big box/TSC/HF style trailer at work we use behind side by sides to move material around and it’s been abused used and doesn’t seem worse for wear. I’ll try to see if I can ID it tomorrow.

I would want something that can use normal car tires, 15" maybe 14" if the rest was just right.

I'm rebuilding a trailer right now that was homemade 30-40 years ago for this exact reason. I'ts got a 4x8 deck and it's just the right size & weight for pulling with a SXS or 4wheeler. I'll take some pics to post after I install the wood deck and sides I purchased today. It's tomorrow's project. Currently has 14" wheels on it but I'm going to put 15"s on it when it's done.

Usually I say just build it but I lean now to the HF or Princess Auto ones since they end up being a better bang for the buck compared to the overbuilt one i would build. When it aint easy to move around it’s just too heavy to maneuver on the trails.

so this little trailer was originally built by my Uncle in the late 70's or early 80's...I'm just fixing it up to put it back into service around the ranch. Mainly so I can haul tools, ladder, chainsaws, etc w/o having to use a truck.

It's got a 4x8 deck, I welded stake pockets to the sides and used 5/4 deck board and 2x4's for the removable sides with 3/4 pressure treated deck wood....

I've now got to take it all apart, stain the wood, and strip/paint the frame, John Deere green of course.

If I were to build one from scratch, I'd make the hitch lower for better ground clearance when being towed by the 4 wheeler, but it's not going to be an issue for what it's going to be used for.

Need to know if you want the trailer to follow behind in the same tracks as the ATV or if it sits wider that is okay. Are your trails rutted up or are you going to be using in snow? for snow use its better if the trailer tracks behind the ATV.

Also How steep are your hills?

My 300 4x4 pull this trailer fine on flat ground but not on hills I don't have the traction.

140 and trailer.jpgIf Its snow out or I gotta go up hills I use this smaller trailer and can have it loaded and make it pretty much where I need to go. The Wheels follow the ATV tires.

Recon Stuck with trailer of pallets.jpg

probaly takes 2.5 small trailer loads to fit the big trailer but I can pull the smaller trailer pretty much down any trail the ATV will go and it follows right along.

Trails are rutted up in places. Have some moderately steep hills. We don't get nearly as much snow as you do in Wisconsin.

I think the Polar Brand Trailer's look pretty good.

I have not used one at all though.

All my ATV trailers that I have are homemade. 2x big ones and then the little orange one and then I have a small metal trailer as well.

How much money are your willing to spend? Heck I look for used ones on FB Market Place or craigslist can usually find a decent deal there.

I got 2 of mine given to me or 1 was free on the roadside and the little orange was like $100

I bought the Vevor last year and it is pretty decent quality for what it cost.
For anyone considering a VEVOR dump trailer, cargo area dimensions are not stated clearly in the listings, so I pointed ChatGPT at "Carriage Size" specifications in the user manuals to generate this comparison for convenience:

TC4268 1500 lbs 15 cu ft $275 (manual)
TC4278 1600 lbs 22 cu ft $299 (manual)
TC4288 1800 lbs 28 cu ft $456 (manual)

TC42x8 comparison.png

The TC4268 seems too small and the TC4288 seems too expensive so I ordered the Goldilocks TC4278 from KFFKFF via Walmart for $273.
9adb-91e5699bc179.fd3d879fab9f83b142c265d6312d94a3.jpg

It was ordered on a Friday and arrived the following Wednesday via FedEx (packaged in a 34"x32"x170" x 130-lb cardboard box) with minor scuffs on the orange rails but otherwise in perfect condition with all hardware present and clear printed instructions included. Assembly was straightforward and took about 30 minutes. The trailer feels solid, rolls smoothly, and is a good match for both my John Deere x595 garden tractor (towing; its wheels span F:32"-46" R:24"-48" which tracks this cart's wheel span of 32"-44") and my Kubota L3710 utility tractor (loading; its LA681 bucket is 60" wide and this cart is 60" long). I appreciate the low profile (platform between the wheels) which makes it easy to load and minimizes center of gravity when traversing sloped terrain (at the expense of reduced ground clearance and height for dumping compared to trailers with a platform above the wheels). I'm very pleased that it meets my criteria!

This John Deere has held up great. I have had it over 20 years. The new JD ones are plastic, made in China now, but I see these older ones available used on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, Offer Up etc, often.

That's a beautiful cart! Steel models remain available; the 10 was replaced by the 13.
