I have another thread about replacing my pool filter that went bad a year ago. I was going through a breakup at the time and said screw the pool and just covered it up.

Now I have to pump it out and deal with the swamp that no doubt lives under my pool cover.

So I'd like a good general purpose pump I can use to pump the pool out and for any other water pumping needs I have.

I know amazon is filled with cheap pumps, probably the same with the box stores, so I thought I would get you all's take on it. Does it matter? Should I get a good brand? If so what do you guys like?

My pool is small, 24' x 11' in ground. I don't need it pumped out in ten minutes but I don't want to wait 3 days either, if that helps.

Thanks

Unless you see a future pump need, just rent one at a local rental center. I’m assuming you have a suitable discharge area. A 5 to 10 horse, 2” will **** it out pretty quick.

For around the house stuff, I have a Little Giant submersible. Great for finishing off the pool.

I had a valve on my old Jacuzzi that let me blow off water using the main pump to a garden hose, saved lots of time vs Little Giant.

I have used Little Giant and Wayne pumps for same and similar tasks. Not the cheapest but they are handy to have around and last quite awhile.

A different take here: look for a dewatering pump on amazon warehouse deals. I picked up a Tsurumi LB-480A for $200. These are meant for jobsite abuse, so the cord is tough, made of metal, able to run dry for more than a minute or two. Massive gpm.

Get a cheapo 2” hose and you’ll be set.

I use mine to drain a badly graded side of my house which fills with a several inches of water in storms and turns to a muddy mess. 20min of running, water is gone. Water flows out the 2” hose almost as a solid stream.

I do actually. Every year I have to drain this sucker out with a pump to clear water out of the skimmer and return lines. But I'll admit renting a larger than needed pump to clear it out over lunch is tempting...

I like wayne and I'll take a look at Little Giant. If I buy one I'd like to get one that will last.

Can you get a siphon going?

Unfortunately no, its inground and no drop off around me.

I do like all aspects of this one. Sounds like it can take some abuse and is built to last. To be honest my pool is probably like a mini pond... Not proud, but I know there was at least on unfortunate rabbit that met his demise in the bottom of my pool, along with grass clippings, possible frog carcasses, leaves, etc. After the ex and I split, I just covered it up lol.

As a side note, I never look at amazon warehouse. I keep hearing about people getting deals there, I'm going to start checking it. Thanks for the tip.
