Have an outdoor shed, with a flat roof, started life as a box off a small box truck. Top has multiple seams that are riveted, and are for the moment holding firm and not leaking. Original paint on the box is mostly gone, want to seal the roof with a waterproof paint or solvent, which will seal the whole thing up for the future, and when it's dry, paint a different color. So, it must be waterproof, and be paintable when dry.

Any recommendations?

Use elastomeric caluk to seal the seams/rivets and paint when dry. On top of that use a good oil based paint - tractor supply sells an enamel and hardener that would hold up great.

Another option would be the rubberized roof coating used on mobile homes. Lowes & HD both sell them in the roofing section - Henry's is the brand I think?

x2 on the mobile home roofing. comes in 5 gallon bucket. goes on ugly black, but dries to silver. cheap. if no one is walking around up there will last a long time. if it ever leaks just recoat.

of course, if you don't want the roof to be silver, disregard this response.

You should go with the color sealants rather than looking for paintable ones. I used one on my roof that is brownish and working great till now.
