Purchased a decent Craftsman welder two years back in anticipation I will one day use it. I learn best by seeing someone show how to do. Anyone know of training DVD that shows how to use a welder, etc...

You just have to do it. Read up on it and try to apply what you've learned until you get it right.
I know how to weld in theory...I just haven't practiced in years. It probably wouldn't take me too long to get good beads going.

Sorry, don't agree with you here. I do understand what you are saying though.
Curious though, where would you start then. Just pick up a welder, read or view nothing, and hope it all works. Sounds like a safety hazard waiting to happen.
Normally, to learn something, you either go to a school of some kind, read a book, along with other options. Videos are an option to get the ball rolling. I like to watch videos and read books on a subject, then have at it. You will only get better normally with practice and doing, but you need to learn the basics normally before you have at it. And when you learn from someone else's experiences, you have a better chance of not doing something stupid along the way. Books and videos and teachers all come with some experiences and I am sure learning from someone that has been there, no mater the method, is a good thing.
I am sure there are many things we don't need to read about or be shown by an instructor on how to get started. But, when it comes to something I can either blow myself up or shock my self to **** or cause someone else bodily damage, I prefer to be shown the proper basics first, then have at it knowing I put safety 1st by learning the basics so I can safely learn.

You can learn from a video. Obviously you gotta do the hands on stuff to implement what is on the video and practice, practice, practice. If you wanna learn welding and don't have the time and or money to attend a school, it is my opinion that videos are a great alternative. As with everything else, if you have that "will to learn", determination, and willingness to practice, you can do it.

I really like "some" videos.
My story.... 42 years old. Last time in autoshop was high school, early 80s. So, long time. Never really wrenched. Now transport to 2000s and I get into wrenching. I love old VWs. Not a school I know that teaches how to work on old VWs <grin>. So, I buy books and books, and read and read. Buy the basic tools and have at it with service manuals and various books. I then stumble upon BugMeVideos. All about how to service your old VW. Great series. The guy, Rick Higgins, knows his stuff. Been working on VWs since 60s I believe. He has a great way of teaching the very basics to a newbie. Love his teaching style. Watching his videos has given me the confidence to work on my old VWs. Learning what and what not to do from these videos has been great. So, not only can I use the service manuals, I can see a pro teach how it is done. Then, I go out and do the work myself. Over years of this, I will learn much.
My hopes is I can learn all the basics to restore my old VWs rather than pay someone to do for me. So, I will weld and do body work and learn all this as I go. Asking questions here and there, reading books, and yes, watching videos. Not saying I will become a "black belt" on autowerks, but I will learn and do the best I can do.
