The Bostar QC post came with a t-nut "blank" that was 2-3/8" x 2-3/8" x 1/2" thick. The center of this blank was drilled and tapped for the threaded center rod of the QC post.

I should have taken a few pics while milling down this blank, but I never thought of doing so. I used a 1/2" 4-flute end mill to first cut the blank to slightly smaller than the width of the compound slot. Then used the same end mill to mill the "t" profile on each side of the tapped hole. There was no need to cut the blank to length nor reduce the overall thickness. The blank material milled easily.

It was a simple milling task, but my "mill" is actually an Enco mill-drill unit and, while adequate for this job, it is kinda light weight so milling speed and depth of cut is slow.
Yeah, but at least you got one. I'd love to have a mill.
I might have some pictures of my T nut, I have to look.
I don't have my lathe here ATM.

i had a phase 2 BXA on my 13" southbend and bought an aloris when it was on sale, i cant honestly say i noticed much of a difference. i took them apart and compared the two and the machining wasn't much different but the Aloris was made better, once i cleaned up the phase 2 and greased it the feel and function is basically identical to the aloris.

thanks

if you find and try a multi-fix style QCTP you will never want to use anything else. I have one on my mini lathe and i'ts amazing. So much so I have already purchased one for when I get my real-boy sized lathe and retire the mini washer maker, lol. Even the newer Chinese made ones are actually quite good in quality so far as I have found.

I agree but they don't meet the "budget" criteria, even the Chinese ones (Create tool)
I was really pleased to get a Genuine Swiss size B and 5 toolholders end of last year for less than a Chinese one costs, its effectively NOS, only some surface rust on the holders from poor storage that I have got off with evaporust and a good clean and oil was needed.

I have a buddy that has one of the better made Alora style units on his craftsman 12 inch and it works well. I tried one on my mini lathe and it just didn't have enough calmping force to be rigid when cutting harder materials so I had to spend the money on the Multi-fix for that one, and in the process bought the wrong size, so it kinda painted me into the corner of sell that "too large" one or buy a bigger lathe. Obviously it just makes more sense to buy the bigger lathe, lol.
