I need to purchase a mid-priced inline sander (a 'jitterbug' is what we called it during my days as an autobody guy). I can't afford a $300 Hutchins Hustler, before everyone recommends it. I can spend about $100, that's all. Wil be used for some drywall sanding now and autobodywork later.

Maybe something like this...but I am open to any brand...

you do not need one for drywall
dont bother, because your sanding 'sweep' needs to be longer than that to get the wall flat

Thanks for the good advice, but limited access to a small section of the wall (boxed in on four sides so long strokes are impossible) and an injured shoulder make it an attractive option in this case.

And, I still need one for autobody work. Any recommendations?

Does the Ingersoll-Rand 315 have a decent reputation?

I would either do the IR, or consider a CP as well, but for that amount of coin I imagine those two are about all you will be able to discuss.

I've not had oppertunity to use one yet but I have two in in the tool box waiting for when I start on the bodywork step of the resto on my Mustang. If you're not opposed to a used one I could sell off either an IR-315 or the Rodak 8200, or both. Hell I'm still a long way off from the bodywork phase and odds are I'll find another one before I need it.

I had the IR and didn't like it. I replaced it with a Hutchins and never looked back. You should be able to find a used one in your price range.

I have one that has performed well. I think its the CP but would have to look to be sure (its not here right now).
I do not use it professionally so I cannot tell you what the durability would be for more that hobby usage.

for drywall I prefer a 'pole sander'

I've been pretty happy with the Rodac I have. It was pretty beat before I got it and I probably used it more on my trucks cab and doors than most people need for an entire small car (Got to love old iron especially when its your first time doing body work in earnest.) and it performed perfectly.
