I already have good lighting over my large garage door, but need more light at the side door when I walk up to unlock the door. Installing a wall-mounted light next to the door is harder since they are about 8" thick brick/block walls, so I would prefer to put a couple small lights in the soffits.

The soffit is about 12 inches above the door, and its about 12" deep overhang. I would like to use a small recessed (or very low profile) LED light (4"-6" diameter) that is rated for outdoor use. It will not be directly in the rain, but will be exposed to moisture. Anyone have recommendations for a simple solution?

Thanks,

Bruce

The can lights for a shower would work well for you. I bought a couple led’s for my shower about a year ago from Lowes, as they are approved for wet locations(bathrooms). I just looked it up, you use a regular remodel 4” can light with a 4” shower lense.

Snap in wafer lights. No can necessary.
Just go to amazon and search wafer light.
Easy peasy.

I used LED Waves Midtown in my shop build. Its still working well in year 3. However the black "anodized" finish is not exterior rated, it faded to sort of a brown. But, the components are rated "damp location" as I recall. I forget the beam angle right now but its a narrower focus. I'd like to put some more in the house when more funds come available, I like the look of the light coming down from the soffits, and the main motivation was to keep clean exterior walls and still comply with the IRC requirement for 1 exterior light per man-door.

Home Depot has Globe Electric Slim LED Lights for $30 each. They are wet location rated and only about 5/8" thick. They install usimg spring loaded arms to hold them in place. Perfect for soffits.
