I/R , Milwaukee, or Snap On. These have way more power than the Craftsmen. What is your intended use?

What price range are you wanting to stay in?

Are you only looking for an impact, or do you want to be able to use the batteries for other specific tools also?

Really depends on budget, but I'd skip the Craftsman one.

If it were me, I'd go with the I/R.

The big Milwaukee would be $380 shipped from Northern. They have a $50 off $250 coupon.
I think I'd pony up the extra for the 5 year warranty if nothing else.

The Mac does look pretty decent though. I never looked at them before.
I like that it can share batteries with Dewalt

So, that sounds decent if it includes a charger and batteries, but it may not.

Another vote for the 2763 here though.

Looking to buy a 1/2" cordless impact...what does everybody recommend?

This is what im looking at now

http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-c3-189-8221-heavy-duty-impact-wrench-kit/p-00945195000P

How are you going to use it?

I've had the Craftsman C3 19.2 volt cordless tools since 2006. I am very, very, very happy with them. I am a hobbyist, weekend racer.

I've had the C3 1/2" cordless impact wrench for five or six years. Works great in the shop or at the track. My ni-cad batteries are starting to get soft, but to this point they easily tighten the lug nuts to over 90 pounds.

Very cost effective. Very good series of tools. I have only ONE type charger in the shop, in the trailer, and in the motorhome.

Probably going to use it for junkyard runs or if someone calls me and they have a flat to take off tires and put the spare on....in my garage I have a 220v 60 gallon air compressor and a 1/2" impact wrench so I won't be needing the cordless impact there

I don't see why this won't get the job done for you.

Do you have any other C3 19.2 volt cordless tools?

If not, and you have another line of cordless tools, you might want to go with something you already have a few batteries and charger for.

My thoughts. The Snap-On li-ion impacts **** IMO, and this is why. They have a lag when you pull the trigger, the CT7850 is too heavy and too bulky IMO. I have their ni-cad stuff, (CT6850, CDR6850, CT4410A) I like it. The IR W7150 is light, crazy strong and much nicer to use than any Snappy 1/2" li-ion I've ever tested. Can't say on the Milwaukee, as I've never had a used one to use and test out. They ( Snap-On) are making a new ni-cad 1/2" CT6618? or something to the tune of that number. I've seen them, haven't had one yet. No idea on quality and longevity of anything I just mentioned ,except the Snap-On ni-cad stuff I use, it holds up very well.

Don't get the Milwaukee whatever you do, because then you will be on a quest to get more of it.

You have a compressor and air impact in your garage? Get the Milwaukee 2763 or IR W7150 and you'll have that ancient pneumatic stuff up for sale the next day. Gone are the air hoses for me, especially on the cordless ratchet front. No more ear plugs just to use an air ratchet.

Not sure on your intended usage, but I managed to get the Milwaukee for $315 total along with a drill by purchasing the bare tool and an on-sale $99 drill/battery/charger combo (Home Depot). Granted, it came with the smallest battery instead of the bigger ones the kit comes with, but seems to have plenty of life for home usage and I got a drill out of the deal as well.

I was just at Home Depot and saw the Rigid impact that looks just like the Craftsman with the 3 lights in the snout.

Your probably could get away with the Milwaukee 2655 for your junkyards and tire changes. It's quite a bit smaller, lighter, comes in 1/2" or 3/8" anvil, and still has more power than many pneumatic impacts.

Weight in damn near equal on the IR W 7150 and SO Ct7850. Egronomics is up to user. They all get heavy after 32 lug nuts on a 3/4 ton.

I'd consider a 3/8" drive for junkyard runs.

I had a 1/2" impact for the first half of the race car I'm building before getting a 3/8" SO CT8810. The 1/2" isn't that much longer, but for the spots I was working in (taking suspension apart, pulling the driveshaft, etc) the slightly shorter 3/8" SO could go a lot of places the 1/2" couldn't or required a bunch of fiddling with uni-joints and such.

The SO 3/8" has a good bit more power than the IR offering and I've found the SO to be plenty of power for pretty much every job (including rear axle nuts).

Just throwing it out there as a thought.
