One of the things that i often find myself wishing for is a 1/4 hex screwdriver skin. Not an impact drive (have one), or a drill (have several), but a smaller hex screwdriver that is easier to get into tighter spaces, and more manoeuvrable, especially when using a 90deg adapter. (and it wont blow up a 90deg adapter with the impacts).

Local tool shop recommended me the Milwaukee M12 Hex Screwdriver, but i dont have any M12 gear at all (Einhell and old-Hitachi) so im wondering if there is something better out there.

Want something that has enough grunt to be able to drive screws in and countersink holes in wood etc. So none of the cheap 3.6v gear will suit.

What do people recommend?

I'm in the same dilemma as well, and I think i've brought it down to the Bosch ps22 or the snap on cts761 because of size; both being around 5.6". Obviously the Snap on is more expensive, but my co worker has one and when i used it, it's pretty darn good. Light and pretty strong from what i feel.

Am I wrong in assuming you'll need a battery and charger for anything you get? Wouldn't let that sway you away from the m12 stuff.. they will all be pretty evenly matched, and clutches give you a lot of control. Milwaukee also makes a right angle m12 impact driver too. They still have that m4 screwdriver as well, but it's not very powerful.

Don't know if this matters to you, but Milwaukee also has the biggest battery selection in the 12v platform. They have 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 ( 3.0 in both compact and flat bottom variations), 4.0, and now even 6.0 amp hours.

That said - the dewalt has a really nice grip style, and better lighting. Dewalt also has the 8v? Gyroscopic screwdriver too.. I hate the way it works, but other people like it. But the m12 platform offers a lot more in their lineup that can you'd be able to utilize after an initial purchase.

Yeah, will need battery and charger anyway, as the Einhell (Ozito) stuff i have is all 18v and the Hitachi stuff is cassette and they have switched to slide batteries.

So its all much of a muchness in terms of brand loyalty.

The Bosch PS22 looks nice, but unavailable in Aus, and its hard finding a reseller to ship to Aus. Plus with the price difference i could get the Milwaukee M12 drill, driver, and impact driver...

Was going to say the bosch 12 v but you cant get that sadly. I have the drill driver and it's stupid strong. So I don't think you can go wrong with most current choices.

I have the Milwaukee fuel m12 screwdriver and its great. Lots of power and good run time.

Which one? Apparently there has just been an update to the 2402 driver (black snout). Still considering the 2401 though.

I have 2402 Fuel hex screwdriver and can highly recommend it

With its two speeds it is extremely powerful and can drive long wood screws with ease.

And although it has the same body configuration as the two M12 Fuel drills it is shorter and bit lighter with the different style chuck design

My first Milwaukee hex screwdriver was the original version of the 2401 which has one variable speed range (and may still be found thru some secondary sources) the current design has been changed to look similar to the 2406 two speed brushed version of the hex screwdriver.

I have always liked the old 2401 for general assembly chores, was very lightweight tool and currently a brand new single battery -21 kit with soft storage case and charger has been available for just $69 here in the US though seems to sold out of stock most places I look right now!

Overall Milwaukee's brushed 2406 2 speed can be a good compromise between the other two and can usually be found as a two battery kit or just as bare tool and priced lower than a Fuel versions.

Just as FYI for any one looking to buy state side here Milwaukee FUEL hex driver -22 kits have recently been on free 6.0ah battery promos many places to sweeten the deal
