I've had 10 years of faithful service from my matco. The new ones have a striking cap.

Do yourself a favor and get one with a striking cap. Whenever I have a 3 footer out, I generally have a big hammer out also.

make you own out of a s-10 blazer torsion bar. you can pry with it and beat on it to your hearts content and it will not bend, break or twist. i've also made one out of a 2500 ext cab but it would be overkill for car work and your back.

OTC makes a good prybar but my favorite stands the test of time is a snap on.

get a 36" snap on in any color you like or step up to a 42" for another $20

Depends on how much you want to spend. If you want a striking end, a multi positioning one, or just one you can beat the **** outta it and not worry. Also is this used daily or just once in a while?
Snap on will cost the most and HF the least. In between those you have major players and minor league stand outs. Here are a few, and I am sure it is not all.
Craftsman, Matco, Cornwell, MAC Tools, Klein, Channel Lock, Williams, Proto, Stanley, Kobalt, Blue Point, and some of the others mentioned above in other posts. I am sure there are over 100 manufacturers that have them in stock. I have and use Snap on and Craftsman and MAC Tools. I have not used any others.

Might as well go big or go home. I got this for christmas this year, works wonders on suspension parts.. and lifting homes off of their foundations. LOL!

Beat me to the punch...

Wilde (also Craftsman) but the Wilde is cheaper by about $10, same thing just different name on the handle.

$12 + roughly $10 shipping

I have the Craftsman pros as well, the striking cap is nice, but longest they are is 31". They are made by Mayhew.

x2 or 3 for the wilde at harryepsteins. excellent value.

x3 on the Wilde 3' from Harry Epstein

the s-10 4 door blazer is .950 in diameter and 54'' long, the ext cab 1500 is 1.25 in diameter and 54'' long, the 2500 is 1.375 in diameter and 54'' long. the s-10 is the go to pry bar for almost anything and i've had two of us hanging off this bar to the point it flexed and it snaps back perfectly straight. a lot of guys come in here see it and make one, better than those cheap digging irons that bend and stay that way. i just use a rosebud and heat the end as is then beat it on a anvil to a decent point.

In 2002 a co-worker introduced a bunch of us to Die Setter bars and EVERYBODY LOVED THEM, including me, they've been my go to ever since....I'm not sure if prices have increased that much or if my co-worker got a discount for making a large order for us with his dealer (we did not have a Snappy truck that visited us) but its funny cuz I bought both the 18'' & 30'' Die Setters and the 40oz bluepoint hammer and paid 46 bucks and some change..today those three items are over 101.00!

Got the wilde one and love it. it's a 7/8" cut which is very important. IIRC many pry bars of similar lengths are much thinner, which IMO is ridiculous on a pry bar that long.
