WOW< those Lee Valley are nice. But a little too pricey.

The bahco are made in Sweden? I found a set on Amazon for a not bad price. I'm buying in Canada.

Narex makes a good budget set. Made in Czech Republic. Lie-Nielsen makes the best chisels in the US. Lee Valley sells a new line of chisels with blades made from powdered metal. They're made in Canada. Finally the Stanley Sweetheart line is pretty good - can't remember if they're made in the US or not.

I have a 3 piece Stanley set. Clear yellow handles, they have been real nice but no coo marks. Maybe check eBay for some new old stock? I would not buy used chisels.

Yeah if all you need is a decent set then I would look at the craftsman set I don't think it can be bet on value for 30 dollars and I also own the set and has never given me any trouble.

The least expensive set which is of good quality are the Craftsman 6 piece set. It runs about $30, is made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty. Yeah there may be better USA and European made options out there but they are much more expensive. I can't comment on those as I have not yet had the pleasure of trying them :)~

Lie-Nielsen makes some fantastic woodworking tools, to include chisels. They also make hand planes and saws. I believe they make most, or all, of their tools in Maine. They're a little bit expensive, but well worth the cost in my opinion. I have their five piece set of chisels with the hornbeam handles. They have far exceeded my expectations, and again, they're made in the USA.

I agree with Jim C. I'd rather have one Lie Nielsen (USA) or Veritas (canada usually) instead of a set of others. I have started to obtain both LN and Veritas tools and they are expensive but well worth the price charged. You WILL realize this once you hold these tools in your hand. However, I own vintage Craftsman socket chisels made by Greenlee and they are terrific. Lately, I am pining for a mortise chisel though and will probably buy a Ray Iles to start that segment of my chisel collection.

Lee valley also sell the Narex chisels. They are good as indeed are the Marples chisels. However before you invest in expensive high end chisels you need to develop the skills to sharpen them and you also need to buy the sharpening stones and gauges to do this. This is another significant investment in both times and dollars. You may already have these skills and tools - you do not say - it is just you are fussing the cost of the chisels and usually by you have developed the skill to sharpen a high quality edge the cost of the chisel is a secondary issue.
