I have one similar to that, it works good to read the codes. But the tool does not give data as far as the actual sensor or value that is out of spec and setting the code, so you have to figure out what is actually causing that code. For home use I find it works fine.

Any OBD scanner will require the operator to understand the theory of operation to determine what is causing the condition resulting in the DTC being logged.

For quick and dirty, non-CAN BUS stuff, I use a cheapie Actron scanenr that runs about $35 at Wal-Mart.

I mainly want to find out what the "check engine" light trouble is. I have two cars the I need this tool to work with. A 2004 Impala and the 2009 Camry. Do I need the CAN feature with these cars?
