I finally started turning wrenches instead of just changing oil at work, and all I've got is one of those small 7 led lights I picked up at napa, it's pretty bright, but after about 6 hours the batteries are dead. And it has a small magnet in the handle but it will barely hold itself to anything. And after doing a waterpump on a front wheel drive car today, I realized I really need some light.

My buddy had a blue point rechargeable folding light with a super strong magnet, but I can't find them on the truck or online anymore. I need something compact, bright and with a strong magnet on it. I've also looked at the long ones you hang from the hood of the car, but I can't spend $200 on a light.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Can you spend $200 on an impact driver and a light? :D

I really, really like my M12 stick light. I can't tell you how many of the EZRed lights I broke, but that thing just keeps tick... er, shining.

Milwaukee is giving away a free tool with some kits right now, and the light is one of the choices. IMO it's even worth the $80 if you already had batteries... which you will if you buy the kit. Being able to swap the battery vs. waiting for it to charge is nice too.

Many of the trucks rebrand the lights, quality brand. Hard to go wrong with anything from National Electric. You can purchase the lights from the tools trucks or online at Amazon, Tool source, Tooltopia. Do a search here and you can find more reviews.

What is everyone's opinion on the sunlite eagle turbo? I bought one off snapon truck and it has a lifetime warranty. This thing isn't even for sale on Amazon or the other sites. It looks like it's made by a science research company. He even replaces the battery (lithium ion rechargeable) for free. It's the first warrantied battery I've heard of. It came with a belt holster which I use every day but I can see signs that I may have to re stitch the belt holster in a year. I haven't even charged it yet from the initial full charge and it's been weeks of use.

But it cost $150

I also own a streamlight stylus pro c4. They run for 25 bucks, it's a skinny long penlight and they take two triple a batteries. It's a good light too. It's my backup slash home light. Only complaint on this one is the push button is hard to push down.

In my opinion those are

All mine seem to be made of glass. Granted we've probably had a dozen in 2 years, but I've had the hooks just plain fall off of 2 of 'em unprovoked. The park that holds the hook in just snapped. Many more have died after 1 or 2 falls, which are hard to avoid. They've mostly been replaced under warranty, but it's still a pain.

The M12 has been dropped MANY times, and it's still goin'. I'm more worried about the battery pack than the light.

You could also consider a nice headlamp
That would be my suggestion.

Since I began using a headlight, I almost never bother with a drop light at all. The headlight always puts the light right where you are looking -- no need to re-position the light to shine where you need it.....

My second choice is the little 48 LED, mag base, battery powered light that SO / Blue Point has on the tool trucks. It takes 3 AA's and runs for days on one set -- literally, I have left in in place and turned on and went home - found the next day still making some usable light, though definitely running low.

I keep two headlights in my toolbox. Why? Well I lost one for awhile and bought a replacement and of course found the other. I love 'em!! No specific brand...Streamlight ETC...go LED, batteries last longer.. sometimes it takes a little getting used to keeping your light pointed at what your working on. Try working on something in a dark place with nothing more than a headlight. You won't believe how much you move your head around!! Plus you can always set it down and just use it as a stationary light.....

Stop shopping only on the truck. You can get great deals elsewhere.

I agree.. A good head light is indispensable .. But sometimes not ideal .. So I absolutely love my pivoting mag light made by Ullman ( and copied by blue point).. Just don't forget it on the car!

I strongly recommend you to try a headlamp. You can work seamlessly in total darkness and low light areas and have both hands free.
But please do not waste money on those generic 29.99 store bought stuff.

I have a zebra headlight and 8 sanyo eneloop AA rechargable batteries and a charger to go with it.

Sanyo Eneloop batteries and charger

The whole combination will cost $90, but will be many times better than those fancy stick LED lights.

The best compliment to the headlight will be a good old shop trouble light on a reel.

I think you'll be amazed how it is easier to breathe and relax during a repair with that zebralight.

I already cast my vote for the knucklehead, but I will add its the best value there is for a hand lamp.

Stteamlight all the way. I got a streamlight. Cant remember what model. But its amazing. Its around 200 but so well worth it. Every dealer has them so matco cornwell mac they are pricy but brighter then the sun. Comes with 2 batterys and a charging dock. Every tech in my shop has them.

I've had mine for a few years now. It's been bullet proof through multiple hard drops and what not. Haven't replaced the battery or had any issues. I've just replaced the rubber grip a few times. I'm very impressed by the run time also. It's my favorite light and been an excellent purchase. The light was also purchased through my Snappy guy.
