Are there any good one's out there? I see too many seats with the plastic storage underneath, not looking for garbage:beer:

The nicer the seat the better the chair. Height adjustment is nice too. Mac, Matco, and Snap on all sell one that has a molded rubber chair with a short back to it. They run about 200.00. They may be sold elsewhere for less but I don't know if they are.

I just bought this one for $20.00 with coupon from Harbor Freight.

It's pretty comfortable to sit on. Hell I sit on it everyday while eating lunch. I figured it's only a place to sit from time to time and cheap enough. I was going to buy one of the tool truck but thought my money would be better spent on this and left over cash put towards more tools.

i use the Big Red Torin seat, with the large square tray under it. its only a 4 caster model, but the wheel base is wide enough that it does not try to tip, even at the higher settings, and rolls very well. they sell a 5 caster model, but the wheel base is smaller, and the tray is a round, causing it to be more tip prone.

this one. like $35 at menards IIRC im 6'2" and it adjust down to where my knees are too high, and goes way up, higher than i need it too. nice cushy seat for my bony *** too.

I got the snap on one for $200. The ones from HF when rolling, the fasters are ****, not to mention the rubber molded seat is so much nicer and does not rip apart after a year. I've had mine for 5 years now and other than its dirty, it has held up. I was buying those cheap ones and replacing them year after year, I should have just bought a nice one to begin with.

I can vouch for this one as well. It works great and is nothing like the HF stuff. Then again I'm average size 180lbs

What's the height level you're working at?

All of the chairs everybody recommended isn't comfortable (too high) if you work on your brakes/suspensions at standard jackstand height.

Unless you are 300 lbs overweight, the ones from HF are fine.

Not exactly. Not picking on HF either, its all the cheap chairs. The weak link is the wheels. They'll be shot before you know it if you use it in a professional environment. For the weekend wrench I agree they'll be fine. My cheapo Cman at home has probably been used twice in 2 years. Honestly I usually end up sitting on my creeper for home tasks anyway due to the height, or lack there of, of the tasks i'd attempt at home (brakes, suspension, exhaust).

Not true. The one I linked goes plenty low for brakes on stands.

I have the Craftsman version of the Harbor Freight one.
After 6 years and 2 sets of casters (originals failed at the bearings) , it's on its way out. The hydraulic cylinder rises up on it's own after a few hours, and it's only a matter of time.
I don't remember what I paid, but HF sells 'em cheap.
I use it weekly, at least a few times, and co-workers find themselves on it as well. It gets a workout.
No hesitation here on buying another of the same.

I have similar but same main specs, 16" low, and that is quite tall.

Even small low capacity jack stands go 17" high. At least every one that I have seen will. A decent mid range set will get you 24". That would put the top of the jack stand at stomach height.

how low do you want a seat? much lower than 16" and your knees will be above your hips a considerable amount. essentially in a squat position.

measure from the ground to your knee, and subtract 2 or 3 inches, and thats as low as most people will be comfortable sitting upright. if your jack stands are that low, you need to sit on the ground to do brakes.
