Would love to have the metric set in a case, have A Proto standard set in a case, love them, but I don’t see on the Proto website that the metric sets have a case.

Who makes a great quality set in a case. This is for work so I’d like a solid set.

Thank you.

Wright has blow molded cases for sets now. Havent bought one yet but they seem very nice, and I love every tool Ive ever bought from them. Warranty is simple, made in Ohio from US steel, and still a family owned company. They get my money more often than any other company.

Am I too late? I just saw your post. Looks like you're looking for a blow-mold box?

PROTO 13 piece 3/8" drive 6-point Metric Socket Set 09/30/23

sockets look like they're new. they ARE newer than the box for sure.

shipping to Canada might be prohibitively expensive though.

Capri hex bit sockets are great and cheap and lifetime warranty.
If you don't mind Tawian I'd just go with those and save your money for the next tool.

KoKen tends to be my “go to” for these at present. Probably the best quality to price, and the variety available is amazing. Four different lengths, two different styles, plus impact (in two styles). They offer sets, but only on rails, not in a case.

Stahlwille are good, very tough, but if you do twist a bit they won’t sell you just the bit, only the whole socket. They do offer cased sets though.

Hazet are also superbly tough, and better finished than the Stahlwille I think. They offer two styles, of which I think the one piece (985) are stronger. Sets are available, and you can often get the set of 985 bits, in a steel case with accessories, on factory promotion.

The TiN coated 986 sockets are prettier, and probably more corrosion resistant.

Seems like the J4900MA set has been discontinued and replaced with the J52210H set.

Although the website does show a tether ready version of the J4900MA that says it comes with a blow molded case, https://www.protoindustrial.com/pro...-38-12-drive-10-piece-metric-hex-bit-set?tid=.

149.99 at zoro for the J52210H set.

that Hazet set is nice but a 5mm hex bit driven by a 1/2 inch???? that makes no sense. Maybe that's why it's on sale??
It makes perfect sense, once you consider all the different ways folks might use their tools.

Supposing you only own a 1/2 inch drive set, or you’re going out to do a job and only taking a 1/2” drive set?

It makes sense to have the widest range of sizes available.

yeah I guess so. Am thinking about access issues, it does look like there's a fair amount of distance between the tip of the bit and where the socket expands out to accommodate that full 1/2 inch..

These have held up well so far, especially for the $50 I paid for them, and I've had to beat the snot out of a few of them on my impacts. Looks like they are only $30 for the Metric/SAE set now, but showing as out of stock for me, online at least. If they weren't I'd have just bought another set before I finished this post. Perhaps someone will get lucky and find them in stock at a store near them.

^ always has been. no big secret.

Tekton / Tekton Inc., 3707 Roger B. Chaffee Memorial Blvd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, 49548 / https://www.tekton.com/ / est. 2009 - formerly known as Michigan Industrial Tools (MIT) / as of 2022, 74% made in Taiwan, 21% in U.S., 3% in Canada, 2% in China /

<edit> and I'd have to agree with bwringer: go with the Tekton on this one. No reason not to.
