I'm not a pro wrench by no means.
I have been using the cheap craftsman for a decade or better. Finally purchased the 80 tooth or whatever they call it.
The feel is amazing. Handle is nice, but when its time to grab another socket, I can't just push a button and drop it in my hansen tray. Usually my hands are to oily to pull of.
Suggestions on next puchase?

Get the next model down thin profile 60 tooth Craftsman ratchet. It has a button release.

If COO does not matter and you need quick release. Look at the Kobalt ratchets. They are 72t and a good price. I have a few and for the price they are reliable and have a good price. If you need something nicer you could chase down a Snap On truck and get one of their quick release ratchets. Price is pretty steep.

I like the quick release as well. If the premiums were quick release I'd own them. Unfortunately they are not. I own the 60 tooth Craftsman thin profiles (also called "Next Gen" I believe) and they are quick release. They used to be US but now are Taiwan. For the price of them, there are better imported ratchets available, but still the thin profiles are decent ratchets. I like them.

Kobalt makes a good ratchet, if you don't buy their lowest end. I would also suggest the newer HF ones has a button just like you want, I find having greasy hands (I wear the blue gloves) doesn't slip on them as much, and what if you break it? cheap enough to buy a few or return it with the warranty.

I just got some Blackhawk 72 tooth ratchets from zorotools. You can get them in quick release. They're Taiwan made, but seem pretty nice and smooth. They're nice and cheap too.

Use a shop towel, I never put tools away dirty anyway.

OTOH maybe I look like an old lady working around the shop with a shop towel in each pocket wiping up stuff when I spill it, cleaning off stuff before I put it away etc. I use the towels enough that I carry three, clean one so I could wipe sweat out of my eyes or just ready as next in line for a working towel, and a dirty one that isn't quite ready for the towel can.

So looks like I need a fr80

Yep. You wont regret it one bit. I have a FHR80 like the one above, I love mine for what it is. But I also have other longer and flex ones.. A Locking Flex Quick release would be amazing :bounce: (Snap-On are you listening?) I have to warn you, these ratchets don't like to play with lesser ratchets and they multiply worse than rabbits!

EDIT: Ebay has one right now for a decent price.. Check it out.

You should check out Gearwrenchs new 120xp ratchets. They were doing a give away on facebook for awhile and i won. Its an amazing ratchet, the gear mech is probably snapon level.

Just a thought, you might consider best possible scenario (ease of removing sockets), versus the worst (accidently hitting the release button and losing a socket in whatever you're working on). Maybe look for a ratchet with a softer detent mechanism?
