looking at buying a service cart, i have narrowed down my choices and want to see what you guys think, my current box is a snap on KRA4813 which is thanks to this site fighting a losing battle to store all my tools, one of my big concerns is weight due to being active military and having to move every few years.

so my thoughts was to sell my main box and order a KRSC46 and KRSC33, another thought was to order the KRSC46 and a Matco MSC4, so what does the forum think?

Get a HF 4 drawer cart. Decent size and pretty light depending on how much stuff you cram in it. And their relatively cheap(-200) compared to snap on/matco carts at 700+

I just converted my 6 Drawer Craftsman Rollercab (standard width/41" high) to a service cart and placed my chest on my workbenches... I will get pics up of it eventually.

I decided I didn't want a flip-up top because I need to work on things on top of the cart.

if i had to move every few years, i'd be looking for additional storage to add to your current main box.
side boxes, lockers, or a matching top box for the roller you have.
short term solution would be a cart

Thought about the habour freight one but there isn't one even remotely close to where I live, and shipping would be killer

If you have a Napa see if they have any full drawer carts left.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1306100&postcount=22

They were a promo item, the blue one is number BK8050 [there was a red and black also]. Have them punch that number into their system and see if any pop up as available. You wont find a much better deal in my opinion [$400].

Black is BK8051
Red BK8052

KRSC46 and KRSC33 would be great combo. You wouldn't be disappointed.

This is picture from one of our thread. (Zach90Turbo)

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.

I have that service cart, some pics here, post #144. I'll have to post some updated pics since much of what is in it has changed.

My cart gets used a lot out on the drive way since my pickup truck is too tall to fit in the garage. This cart has taken a beating since there is a 1" height difference between my driveway and garage, add to that I have it pretty well loaded now.

the HF one is way to flimsy for this guy if he's comparing SO's and MATCO models.... HF is ok if you're on a rock bottom budget but its otherwise junk.

I have a KRSC33 en route. The new ones are fully welded, which makes for a stronger box if you are going to be moving it alot.

I would look for a used 26" rollaway. You could find a used truck box for less then $200 if the right deal comes along. Another idea, but you want to stay small, is find a larger box and used the 4813 as a cart, I have seen a couple guys do that.

i agree. i went there and checked out both black the and red ones and i could make the make the metal flex way too much for my taste, and i was just using one hand.

i've seen the slimmer version of the krsc46 on the snapon truck that comes by and it feels really solid compared to hf service carts. a lot of hf boxes' integrity is actually pretty decent, especially for the price, but i can't say the same for their carts.

The government will ship all of your **** for free! Or pay you to move it! The more weight the more you get payed!

If I needed a service cart I would go for a KRSC46.

Not totally true. You are limited on weight depending on single/married and rank I believe.

Nope, not Homak, the Homak is similar its not. The Waterloo has a higher weight capacity due to its additional c channel runners that the casters mount to. I did a pretty exhaustive comparitive between these two and chose the Waterloo.

So I take it you are satisfied with the Waterloo UC410? I also have been doing a lot of research and this box seems SOLID with a good price as well, they also sold these under the craftsman name but has been discontinued.

Don't forget the option of DItY moves if you get a CONUS assignment. Last time I PCS'd I loaded up a trailer with all the **** from my garage and got a decent check for it. I ended up going a bit over my weight limit, but that just limited how much I got paid for the DItY move. As far as a cart, I've got the black 4 drawer HF model on sale for $100 and love it, people say the red 5 drawer is even better. Sometimes they have shipping discounts as well ($5.99 flat rate shipping, et al.), so keep an eye out for that. Travis AFB here btw...

I'm very happy with the cart, the side cabinet not so much. The side cabinet out of the box was racked somewhat to where the bottom drawer rubs when opened or closed. Back to the cart, its been flawless, I'm surprised ever time I run it over the 1" concrete bump that it doesn't cave due to the amount of weight I have in it. It does roll very easy even though it is loaded.

Of the one's you're mentioning, I'd personally go with the KRSC46 and Matco MSC4. The KRSC46 is an amazing cart that's straddles the definition of a cart and main box IMO, with it's storage capacity. I have a Matco MSC4 and absolutely love it, from what I've seen they also seem to be quite a bit nicer than the KRSC33 as well, but that's my opinion.

Your right, you are limited by weight based on a scale. But the ceiling on the weight your aloud to have is crazy. Uncle sam paid me to ship about 15,000 pounds of my ****. I had a wall locker full of cloths, the rest was tools/car parts. Its a good system.
