Recommend me a Snap Ring Plier

So I wrench for fun for general maintenance on my cars and families cars. I do not need anything that robust or fancy, just something that will work well. I typically liked (past tense) craftsman before quality control became an issue. I do know that out of the snap ring pliers I would prefer if they have fixed tips. I do not want to be constantly changing the tips. I would need a few probably a pair of straight head, curved head, internal and external.

What seems to be decent these days? I was hoping to keep this around $50 or less, but I do not know squat about snap rings other than I need them for my next task.

I would not at all be opposed to a used set if anyone were to have a set for sale.

I have some USA Cman interchangables and they have always gotten the job done, but they don't work that great. My next set will be Knipex.

While I would love that set of knipex pliers at the moment that is out of the budget for just this task. I have never needed to use snap ring pliers before and I dont particularly want to spend that much for something I probably wont need anytime soon.

Does this set on ebay seem like a set that I should pursue? Or is it just too worn out. I was thinking of offering $50 and going from there.

That Ebay set isn't the precision tips, so maybe $75 with shipping. The interchangeable tip type like the Channellock aren't bad at all for occasional use.

If you have the money, everyone recommends Knipex or SO. You can get the cman pros, usa made, same as blue point, for less.

Yes the link says Kastar but you will receive the Langs and they work absolutely great.

While the knipex may be nice, there have been plenty of snap rings replaced with other pliers. I've used a set of Stinger's and a set of craftsmanship, bothe look similar to the above langs. Both work fine. I agree interchangeable tips will work but they're a pita

buddy is using a toptul and he claims he cant tell the difference between them and knipex lol...but to each his own,i'm using knipex but also used unior and they are nice,but not much cheaper then a knipex

The project I will be doing needs me to have a few different ones. I dont want to be having to change tips on them and would rather just have a few different ones.

I dont think I need an entire set of 8 or 12. I think I can get by perfectly fine with just 4. Is there such a thing as the Knipex set i linked but with the precision tip? If there that might be the thing for me.

I hate interchangeable tip pliers. I use these nearly every day. They have a "cam lock" that makes them internal or external. for 9 bucks and 4 shipping they do great.

I've gone through the paces using 3 different inexpensive circlip pliers with interchangeable tips or heads. They've all sucked immensely.

No more - my next set will be individual Knipex pliers.

Well the parts for my project arrived sooner rather than I had hoped. So I needed them quickly. I drove on down to Sears to peruse what they might happen to have in stock and settled for the tip that can be changed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pros were still made in the U.S.. I bought them. Let's see how they do.

****, I can't remember the brand name but I got a really nice pair at O'Reilly Auto Parts a few months ago. They have several tips, but mainly I like the fact they have a lever to flip that reverses their action. They were $23 and another thing I liked was the ring I had to spread was the ones holding the spindles on a JD mower and they were STIFF. I thought sure the tip would bend or break, but it didn't. I am REALLY pleased with it. If you don't like the others, I can get the name for you next weekend.

I would have to recommend the knipex snap ring pliers. At work 3 of us have these sets and from time to time we eventually have to warranty them but they work.

This is good set for another reason, the pliers are convertible from internal to external.

if you seriously strapped for cash, the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh's are dirt cheap and a heckuva lot better than NO snap ring pliers! - Nowhere near as nice as Knipex, but will work in a pinch and a whole set probably cost what one Knipex costs. - Great until you can afford to upgrade!

Not really... The HF snap ring pliers are junk and one of the few things I would NOT to get from HF. I tried them once.. they all bent and I still had to barrow some to get the job done.

I do agree that the Knipex seem to be far superior and the forums go to plier company. I just could not justify spending $120 for a set of 8 or so snap ring pliers when I have never needed one. I got the craftsman pros and lets see how they go. If I find that I need snap rings all the time then I might re consider my selection but until now I have never needed a pair.

So far the craftsmans feel ok and are USA made which is nice.
