Diablo is Freuds low-end line. Servicable, but the Freud Super-Dado sets are the cats meow...

Yep, I've had both and the Super-Dado is sweet. If you'll use a dado set infrequently, the base Diablo will do the job at almost 1/3rd the price though. It was very good to me.

I've been using the Freud Super Dado for several years now, and it's a great product; no regrets. Buy once, cry once...

Forrest Dado King. It's a top quality set to say the least. I've had this set for 15+ years and have had no regrets. It's not cheap starting at about $250 per set depending on the size you purchase. The results you'll get from this set are amazing! Well worth the money if you plan on cutting dados and grooves. They're also made in the USA.

I have the Diablo set from H-D, works fine what I need. No issues.
I was not aware that the Diablo line was Freuds low end though.

I have the Diablo dado set and it works very well.

I don't recall what the difference was between the "Super Dado" and the "Diablo" set, but it wasn't enough to convince me to purchase the "Super Dado"

Depends on what you intend to do and how much you intend to do. The basic Diablo is what I use and it is fine for my general shop work. That is I don't use it for fine cabinetry, though I think it would perform well enough, and I don't do very much. If you are making shop cabinets once every few years go cheap. If you intend to get into fine cabinets, spend some money and get the best.

I'm curious--what can these do that a router and router table can't do?

You can fine tune the width of a dado blade by adding shims. Routers are pretty much limited to the bit you have, unless you want to make two passes.
