If you go out west, stop at Arizona or Nevada, you really do not want to move to Kalifornia, maybe just look over the border, but do not stay. Unless you are already walking with your head at your feet. They are selling a lot of Vaseline in the Golden State. Everybody is getting fleeced out here. It is effecting the people in the rural counties and they are getting real tired of it. But the demographics have the liberals on there side, not much of a change coming. We have already got our ranch bought in Arizona, although, those guys over there are a little to close to Kalifornia and it seems to be catching on. Good Luck and do not go near Phoenix, it's a sewer and Sheriff Joe has to deal with all the Kommies that Obama is sending at him!!!!!

I drive a 2005 lariat 4 door,5.4 ,4x4. Gets over 17mpg on the road at 65mph.It drops down to about 13.5 pulling a trailer or boat. It is nice to have the 4x4 and the power.Little trucks cant do near what this one does and they dont save you $400 a year on gas .
I will admit that when i dont need to drive a truck I drive my wifes corolla S 40mpg.

I would highly recommend the Official Truck of the Taliban.

The great Toyota Tacoma! You know it's gotta be tough to haul all those nimrods. Besides did you see the Toyota that would not die on Top Gear?

It's Fast, it's tough, comfortable, dependable, good looking, just simply awesome.

Just get a Ranger....PERIOD. Bought my 1994 XLT 4.0l brand new. Now has 303,000 miles on it with only 'problem' a small leak in the intake manifod gasket about 150,000 miles ago. Tanny has never been apart - just regular filter changes. Other than that one small leak, just regular maintenance work. Heck, have not even replaced anything in the suspension (incl shocks!!!!) - all factory original and still drives good. Only replaced 2 alternators, 1 starter, 1 set rear brakes and the radiator and 3 batteries.

I drive cars HARD - drive it like I stole it every day. Best damned car/truck I've ever owned. Recently added a F350 PSD crew-cab 4x4 to the stable so the Ranger gets some off time now - much deserved. I've loaded that Ranger to the gunnels countless times with no problems.

All my friends with other makes - can't touch the reliability that I have gotten from the Ranger.

Anyone in a snow state have a 10 year old or so Tacoma? I'm wondering how they hold up these days. My last one lasted to 185,000 miles, then within a month blown head gasket, bad transmission bearing, and the worst was bad frame rot to where a rear spring shackle mount let go right off the frame.

Its a tough balance to find a small truck or SUV with 4WD that gets decent gas mileage. I've owned both Chevy and Toyota trucks, and been happy with both. I owned a 1990 Toyota 4Runner that I logged over 300k miles on; that truck handled great off-road and was made for the outdoors. Don't like the new gen 4Runners though, they now look too much like a minivan. Had to beat Toyota small trucks.

Glad you asked, I may save your life. Yesterday the brakes failed on my 2003 Chevy Silverado with less than 29k miles. I ran through a red traffic light narrowly missing a motorcycle. This is the second time this has happened.Brake lines fail due to corrosion. Replacing all the lines will cost $1300.00. The NHSTA has an investigation going but who knows how many people will die in the meantime. The brake lines run through the frame and rust through. I have read horror stories on the web, dealers no help. Good luck
