So I started a new union job doing lathe, metal framing, drywall, remodels etc and need some good knee pads, he only requirement is under 50 and no hard caps as I always crack them.

Right now we are building a giant theatre/ apartment complex and I'm up top most the days on metal roofs

I'm not a professional, so I just wear ones like these when I'm working in the garage or around the house. Saves my knees from the concrete floor and they stay in place. Helped my buddy roof his house this summer and they held up fine for that job.

In a pinch I grabbed the Husky traction gel pads.

Alot of the old timers at work use the articulating Ridgid gel pads and say they are overbuilt for sure

What about the toes of your boots? If you're on your knees all the time, how do you keep from wearing the leather off the steel toes of your boots?

$20 at my local shoe repair shop gets boot toe caps installed. It’s a textured hard rubber coating that is a lot like truck bed liner material and protects the toe leather. It’s available in black or they can color match it to the leather.

I have the proknee short ones I think the number is AP16. These are like kneeing on clouds. I only use them for clean interior work. They are rebuildable.

For everything else I use Kneepro ones They are about thirty bucks, are articulated and about the best all around knee pad I have found for that price. I highly recommend these.

I heard about these (Abramsons knee Pad Hangers) and bought a pair. FANTASTIC!! I set a lot of forms for footings and I need knee pads but I couldn't keep them on my knees. And the back of my knees were killing me. I bought a pair these knee pad hangerss and oh man they work great! Its a suspender strap that attached to your knee pads. My knee pads havent slipped once since.
Anyway, I hope this was helpful

I've tried a few but find them somewhat annoying to have on

I got this for under $20 at Harbor Freight and really like this instead. Easy to slide along while i was putting down flooring.

That's actually a cool idea, I'll look into the Carhartts

One way is to wear the volleyball style knee pads under your work pants. They are comfortable and don’t move around and washable. I did this for 10 years.

Congratulations on your new job.
