I need to cut some 25 gauge metal drywall corner beading. I have to make a few cuts here and there, but nothing too crazy.

I would like to get a USA made tool, but don't want to spend a ton because I really don't think that I will be using these too much in the future.

I know nothing about snips. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wiss or Midwest are quality and USA made.... otherwise, even HDX-brand will cut corner beading.

I rarely use snips also but at under $25 a pair I went with Midwest. Saving $10-15 for a cheaper pair just didn't make sense to me. Get the offset version, much easier to use.

The second style is what you want (yellow handle). The first style is for longer cuts than you would ever encounter in corner bead (if that's all you're really doing).

I'll second the vote for Midwest being the best. My go-to snips are my Midwest upright snips (upright and offset snips are batter IMHO for long cuts, but when the cut is no longer than the blade length, they have no advantage).

But if you're only cutting corner bead (where a perfect cut also isn't all that important), a Chinese set will outlast cutting all the corner bead on a block's worth of houses (and still has a lifetime warranty too):

I actually have the 3 piece set from HF, and though they're not as sharp or smooth or long lasting as a quality set, they'll still do the job. The 3 piece set goes for half the price of one upright Midwest snip, so I keep them around for when someone wants to borrow one (usually to cut freight banding).

Midwest Snips, absolutely. They are the current supplier for Craftsman from what's been discussed on the forum.

I need to use snips occasionally and have been very happy with a couple pairs of Craftsman branded Midwest models that I bought several years ago. They've held up well and stayed sharp. I'd recommend Midwest products.

I have a couple dozen midwest snips that I bought new in an auction lot. I sell them for $15 shipped, and include a leather holster/pouch. If there's interest, I'll take a picture and put them up in the classifieds.

The regular, forged snips are still made in USA by Midwest Snips. Most of the utility cutters with replaceable blades (Accu-Cut, Handi-Cut) went overseas last year except for the Craftsman 42798 which is a rebranding of the Midwest MWT-1200 MagSnips.

The ones that everyone calls Midwest look quite the same as Wiss, which are good quality , I recently got a pair of Malco , check them out, IMO better. BCD

Wiss or Midwest/Craftsman will be fine for what you are doing.
I have some 20 year old Wiss snips that have served me well, but are a bit more light duty than Midwest.
I see lots of snips that are ruined by cutting wire and nicking the blades.

I thought that I had read that the Craftsman ones were mostly chinese-made these days. The snips are still USA?

I've had mine for several years and they're USA made. I can't say that I know if the current Craftsman snips are USA made or not.

Great. Thanks, everybody. The Craftsman ones are on sale, so I'll grab a pair of those. Thanks for your input!

I have a set (left, right and straight cut) of the Midwest made Craftsman snips. They were like $15 each if I remember. They are awesome. Especially if you have any Sears points to use. These are one of the really good quality tools left under the Craftsman name. Buy them. You won't be disappointed

At my local Sears the CMans are still US-made and they look like copies of Midwest snips… their Evolv-brand snips are Chinese though, but for corner bead… anything will do.

I had to trim a piece of battery terminal. The sheet metal looks quite thick. I wasn't sure if the Midwest I had will do the job, but it did.
Some other poorer quality snips may just open at the join, but not the Midwest.
I'm happy I got it my tool arsenal.

I like Midwest. I believe they're sold at Sears still, but it's anyone's guess how much longer. Only others worth mentioning are Wiss, but many tin knockers say Midwest smokes them.
